This intentionally multi-generational gathering is open to and welcoming of trans/nonbinary elders as well as children, youth, and young adults. NOTE: There may be cisgender people present as parents supporting their 13-and-younger-child's presence in the space, as tech support, or as captioners.

Bring a trans/nonbinary+ friend if you'd like and come enjoy our cozy community. Register: https://www.uua.org/lgbtq/transnb.

On the day of our annual Hunger Communion service the First Unitarian community is invited to join in fasting from sunrise to sundown. This year the fast will be in recognition of the people of Gaza, particularly children, who are struggling to find food and water. All are invited, whether fasting or not, to contribute at least what we would have spent on food to Anera (https://tinyurl.com/4fh8cypn), an organization working on the ground in Gaza to bring humanitarian relief.

Many Christian Churches use the term giving testimony to describe the sharing that happens after a significant event. Climate Week was significant! Join Side with Love, Unitarian Universalist Ministry for Earth, UUSJ, and UUSC, to debrief Climate Week 2023. We’ll share stories, reflect on victories, lament what’s left to do, and learn what comes next in our collective work for climate justice. Join us to metabolize it all! Register: https://secure.everyaction.com/yhBLuHQZlUK9kafyOToQEw2.

Jacob Johns, a father, Unitarian Universalist, and Indigenous climate activist from Spokane, was tragically shot last week morning during a peaceful protest against the er****on of a conquistador monument in Tewa territory, also known as Española, New Mexico. He is presently battling for his life in the ICU.

DRUUMM shares our healing prayers with Jacob and his family and uplifts the struggle for self-determination and environmental justice Jacob is a part of. We are painfully reminded that our Black, Indigenous, and Communities of Color face disproportionate trauma and harm, and if pastoral care would be helpful for any DRUUMM member, please reach out to us at druumm.org/chaplains

Ways to support:

1️⃣ Consider donating through the GoFundMe set up to assist with his immediate medical expenses: https://gofund.me/0a63153a
2️⃣ Support Jacob’s ongoing community activism via tax-deductible donations at the Backbone Campaign: https://www.backbonecampaign.org/jacob

We cannot overstate the urgency of combating the intensifying violence against Indigenous peoples that has persisted since colonialism's inception, especially amidst the climate crisis. Together, we must recommit to our collective care and protection of each other and our planet.

Our Story

The First Unitarian Congregational Society in Brooklyn is a joyful, caring, religious community that inspires and empowers people to Grow spiritually, Care for one another, and Work for social justice and stewardship of the earth.

We worship together every Sunday morning at 11:00AM in our 175 year old historic Gothic Revival Sanctuary in Brooklyn Heights. Services are followed by coffee, tea, and fellowship.

Second Sundays are special at First U. The service features a jazz ensemble and is followed by an all-congregation Sabbath Lunch (at will suggested donation).

All are always welcome!
