The beautiful Glasnevin Cemetery, Dublin, Ireland
Nestled in the heart of Dublin, Glasnevin Cemetery (Reilig Ghlas Naíon) has been a resting place for many since it opened its gates in 1832. This historic cemetery is more than just a burial ground; it’s a place where Ireland’s past comes alive through the graves and memorials of some of the nation's most notable figures, including the graves of Daniel O'Connell, Charles Stewart Parnell, Arthur Griffith, Maude Gonne, Brendan Behan, Christy Brown and Luke Kelly of the Dubliners.
Glasnevin spans across 124 acres and is divided into two parts, marked by its iconic high walls and watchtowers that were originally built to deter bodysnatchers. The cemetery also shares a unique connection with the National Botanic Gardens. (and The Infamous Gravediggers pub!!)
Steeped in history, Glasnevin was established at a time when Irish Catholics faced restrictions on burial rites. Thanks to the efforts of Daniel O’Connell, this cemetery became a place where both Catholics and Protestants could lay their loved ones to rest with dignity. The high wall with watchtowers surrounding the main part of the cemetery was built to deter bodysnatchers, who were active in Dublin in the 18th and early 19th centuries. The first burial here was in 1832, and since then, Glasnevin has expanded, now including a crematorium and a museum that offers a deeper dive into its rich history.
Visiting Glasnevin is like taking a walk through Ireland’s story, with graves of figures like Michael Collins, Éamon de Valera, and many others who shaped the nation. It’s a place of reflection, history, and remembrance, offering a serene space where the past and present meet.

Ok so we dont ALL have the fabulous Patti LuPone in our little black book of friends but involving your friends and family can be a beautiful way to make a memorial personal AND help with costs (because hopefully they will want to do it for free!)
This was such a gorgeous moment to witness - she is a beautiful person and vocalist. An honor to see her warm up (here) and doing the actually service for her dear friend and colleague. 💞
Some of our favorite 'Mothering' episodes from The Glam Reaper Podcast are about child loss, mother loss and more. The inspirational ladies might bring you a smidge of comfort today. We can only hope 💞

What is a Mother Loss Ceremony?
A mother loss ceremony can help you acknowledge the feelings you might be holding in connection with the loss of a mother, the loss of a child, or your own complicated relationship with motherhood.
The ceremony can be a time to reflect, an opportunity to remember, or a time to reignite a legacy. However you choose to build it, you get to make the ceremony your own.
