Hey JTF community, let’s go into the weekend on a high note! We are proud to welcome the Forsyth County Arts and Learning Center’s Penguin Project to Atlanta this January, as we believe in the power of inclusion and acceptance in the theatre community. We are thrilled to showcase how all individuals, regardless of ability, can shine on stage. Join us in spreading this important message at JTF! 🌟

What is the Penguin Project? Established in 2004, The Penguin Project has evolved into a national program, with 53 chapter sites throughout the United States. The program provides a supportive environment for children with disabilities to explore their creative talents. In FoCAL Center's Penguin Project production, high school students with special needs from Forsyth County Schools perform a modified version of a well-known Broadway musical in the FoCAL Center James and Dorothy Otwell Theatre. They are joined on stage by a dedicated group of “peer mentors” – children the same age without disabilities who have volunteered to work side-by-side with them through rehearsals and through the final performances.

At the end of every rehearsal and performance, Penguin Project participants conclude with a choreographed dance to “Don’t Stop Believing” from Glee. Every Penguin Project chapter around the country does this same dance, because we should never stop believing in the power of ourselves and each other. Penguins may not be able to fly, but that doesn’t keep their spirits from soaring.
