Last night we celebrated in honor of the late Grammy, Emmy, Olivier, and Kennedy Center Honors Lifetime Achievement Award winning lyricist Fred Ebb who believed in giving back to the community that fueled his soul. It was announced that the Fred Ebb Foundation, in the last year alone, donated 2.7 million dollars to , the philanthropic heart of Broadway which provides groceries, medication, health care and hope to underserved people in every corner of the country. The foundation, funded by royalties from Mr. Ebb's vast catalogue of work, has donated a total of 30 million dollars to Broadway Cares since its inception. On this Giving Tuesday, we share our deepest gratitude for ’s deep devotion to giving back.

The song was later released in 1973 through RCA Records for the album ‘Aladdin Sane' (both versions produced by the legendary Tony Visconti who also produced the B-side’s “Conversation Piece”). This is the first time the word ‘star’ is used in a Bowie song title, with 8 more to follow! ✨⚡️🌈

In 1968, taking a daring change in musical direction, Bobby Darin moved away from pop, jazz and traditional record labels and established his own label, Direction, where he would spend the next two years recording folk-rock songs packed with socially conscious protest music. Mildred Bailey, known as “The Queen of Swing”, was one of the first female singers to distinguish herself in jazz. Born in 1907, she learned to play the piano and sing on the Coeur d’Alene Reservation in Idaho. At 17, Bailey moved to Los Angeles where she worked as a pianist in movie theatres, a music clerk, and a singer in speakeasies. Inspired by Bailey’s success, her brother Al Rinker and his friend Bing Crosby moved to LA where they were hired by Paul Whiteman in 1926. Three years later, Bailey joined Whiteman’s orchestra as the first featured female vocalist in a big band. With her light soprano voice, brilliant jazz phrasing and articulation. LA-based The Outlaw Blues Band dared to defy conventions in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. This multi-ethnic group crossed cultural and sonic boundaries with its fusion of Latin, psychedelic, blues, rock, and jazz. In 1969, OBB released the atmospheric jazz-tinged instrumental “Deep Gully”, a collaboration driven by renowned jazz producer/engineer Bob Thiele and Lawrence Dickens. While this underground band was originally destined for obscurity , they were rediscovered and memorialized decades later when sampled “Deep Gully” in “When The S**t Goes Down” and sampled the same song in “’Buhloone Mindstate’s’ “Intro” and “Eye Patch”. The Outlaw Blues Band were genre defying musical rebels and are now considered one of the most important blues-rock bands of their time.
