Join us for a truly extraordinary night of jazz when one of the most studied and copied saxophonists on the planet, Chris Potter, takes to the stage with the NYYS Jazz Ensemble at The Times Center on Monday, May 13th at 7:00 PM.

Once again, Music Director Michael Thomas has put together a wonderful array of charts featuring Potter's own compositions as well as music that has defined his work as a sideman. This final performance of the season will include portions of Potter’s Imaginary Cities Suite adapted for big band in addition to works by Charles Mingus and Dave Holland.

The performance will feature composer and the Jon Deak First Music Commission Winner Kevin Zapata's world premiere of his new composition, Reflection.

This month we’re celebrating Jason Young's 14 years of exemplary leadership and collaboration with The Times Center 🥳

To mark the occasion, we asked Jason to reflect on his experiences and accomplishments in a mini Q&A:

Q: If you had to guess, how many events have you worked on at The Times Center?
A: After doing the math, my guess is somewhere near 1,000 events. Everything from awards dinners to campaign stops to brand launches and film premieres. Our space is so versatile and has played host to many major events over the years.

Q: What’s one of your favorite events you’ve worked on and why?
A: So many! I’ve had the opportunity to meet and work with some of the most famous and interesting people in the world. We helped launch Hulu in its infancy, we hosted Lady Gaga when she wrote one of her Oscar-nominated songs and we’ve hosted many Broadway performances. We were a stop on Hillary Clinton’s campaign, and one clear standout event was working with Oprah and her team on producing an event with OWN.

Q: What advice do you have for event leaders?
A: There will always be a challenge to solve in the moment. Be solution oriented. Never say no, offer an alternative. And always remain calm. You put other people at ease when you are at ease yourself.
