After spending the last month playing overseas, and not having spun in NY since September, I am ready to make up for lost time. Anything goes. Expect themes of love, life, and liberation. Big thank you to my comrade for bringing me in on this fundraising initiative. We are uplifting an emergency call for direct aid to support and his family, who have been displaced four times and no longer have a tent to shelter them from the elements.

Khalil is an athlete with the Palestinian national karate team. He went to the University College of Applied Sciences in Gaza to study accounting. Before October, Khalil owned his own food company, his brother Tamer was working on opening his car repair shop, and his 2 sisters were dedicated students. Khalil is a kind, hard-working young man who loves his family, friends, and community.

We have seen movement in Khalil’s campaign, but it is tens of thousands away from the goal. We are asking anyone who is capable to donate to his GFM, to pool funds with friends and family, and / or to DM folks you know so they can give and share if they are able. Late to posting this one as it feels especially morbid this week to celebrate anything at all. The concept of life as usual feels dissonant at best. But music and movement have historically been an act of resistance for people of my heritage, and I do believe radical acts of joy can raise collective consciousness. Back in February at the Blank Forms talk with Theo Parrish during Dweller weekend, he talked about the difference between those of us that want to dance vs. those of us that need to dance, to release the traumas we store in our bodies at the hands of white supremacy. It begs the question, how can I play my part as an artist, not only to reflect the times, but to help others to survive them?

This lineup is deeply special to me, and I’m grateful to share space with each of these artists, to honor lineage, to express, to emote, and to get free. The inimitable .bc kicks the night off with an extended hybrid set, followed by a hardware set from beloved .bk. I’ll take the reins into early morning, followed by someone who has been formative to my work as a DJ, miss Josey Rebelle. Detroit queen will return to the booth for morning mass, on her first Mother’s Day :) and the effervescent .nyc on the heels of their latest release will close it out until 3pm, when Nonstop ends and the party moves to the backyard for Mister Sunday season opener.

I have some list spots open for friends and folks in need, POC prioritized. Hope to see yall there.

2024 is my fourth year booking parties at Nowadays and my third year as a resident DJ. As many are aware, we’ve switched up the programming format this year, to include label nights, more all nighters, and a few new party series, with the most notable change being our 24-hour Nonstop parties going from once a month, to every week. This new format has allowed me to step into a new realm of curatorial work at Nowadays: booking Nonstops.

It’s no secret that highlighting marginalized voices and including our stories amongst historical narrative is at the forefront of all that I do. This new programming format has allowed me to expand on this effort in an unprecedented way. Each month, I have been entrusted to tell a story across 24 hours, of modern dance music and nightlife, from my unique perspective.

This past weekend was the first Nonstop I ever curated, and the first Nonstop I had attended since we kicked off our weekly program on NYE. I spent nearly 14 hours on the dancefloor between Saturday and Sunday and I could not be more proud of the convergence of sounds, cultures and communities we all experienced together. As Sunday turned to night, I sat on the bleachers and cried, as I watched Maxime’s subtle pink lights wash over a dancefloor brimming with utter jubilation from wall to wall via the sounds of Colored Craig. A moment of pure joy that I won’t soon forget. Thank you to all the DJs and party goers who made it absolutely unforgettable.

It is with great elation that we do it again this weekend, on the first of black history month with a hand picked all star lineup spanning the diaspora. A love letter to the origins of house and techno from some of the best and brightest of the old school and the modern black dance music renaissance. I’ve been finding it difficult to promote or center myself in a moment where the world is in utter despair. Every day I interrogate my purpose and examine my role in it all. How can I show up for the causes that need attention? And how can I move through my own life and creative practice with more intention, devotion and passion? Remembering to feel the depth of my grief, but also make space the healing power of love. Feeling gratitude for music and friends, blessings I don’t take for granted!

With that said I’m excited to share space and time this weekend, tonight in NY and tomorrow in Detroit. Playing at with lots of homies and DJs I admire, and celebrating the birthday of someone v special to me 🌟

Saturday, I’ve been invited to Detroit to play the 1 year anniversary celebration of Issa Party, the brainchild of at with & a personal favorite, and one of the most powerful DJs of this generation (really)
