What an incredible past few weeks its been! Ive been busy with a lot of different events but let me start with this one...last friday i had the absolute honor to work with the Museum of Chinese in America to curate a listening event as part of Bryant Park's AAPI Heritage Month celebration. Fun fact: i was a Chinatown Tour Docent for MoCA back over 10years ago while studying in college for my Asian American Studies certification! Im so glad to work with them again through music now in this new capacity.
I learned so much about vinyl record archiving, the history of some of these records in MoCA's collection, and had a fun time selecting out some hot picks!🤩💥🕺
I was incredibly humbled when one of the organizers at MoCA brought his parents to attend. They sat with us through the entire event and shared a lot of nostalgia around the tunes. At the end, the last record we played had a song they heard during a difficult time in their life...After the communist revolution, many people were forcibly relocated to rural areas to farm. They were not allowed to listen to music other than what the communist party sanctioned. However, they got a hold of a radio and was able to tune into a station from British occupied Hong Kong. This was a song they heard and loved it so much they wrote the lyrics down and sang it while they worked.
Hearing this reminded me of the incredible perserverance of our people, the incredible power of music to carry us through difficulty...the power of radio!!! And the importance of access to music and the creative arts. 🎶💓🙏 thank you so much to MoCA and Bryant Park events for allowing me to be part of such a special day

Some of you may remember i posted prototypes of these over a year ago.... eventually i brought my design to the talented @swiftmoneynm at his office in ABQ @coatofcolorsabq who helped me polish up the design for merch! So thankful to Adrian for helping me get my first wearable creations out for my friends and fans.
The Hoodie: The traditional mandarin chinese characters that i created for "Girl Wunder" is "nu" which means "girl" or denotes a "female" quality. Then "qi ji" which is the phrase for "the 7 wonders of the world," "monument", or "pillar." So for me, together, "nu qi ji" means that women, girls, are a great wonder of the world and the phrase is a sigil to bring forth that higher consciousness and recognition of women's power to our society.-- oh and the sleeve says "Soundcrew" which means you're part of a team of listeners on the scene, checking that the vibe 🎶 is right!!
The Hat: also in traditional mandarin, the characters simply say "Music" or "yin yue"! This is my way of introducing my native language into the music scene and promoting as well as recognizing diversity in our community.

Im officially starting a new monthly radio residency with the illustrious nyc-based online radio station HalfMoonBK @halfmoonbk 🥳💥🎶😍
My new show is called Glitch Mode w/ Girl Wunder and it'll be on every second Tuesday of the month at 2pm.EST. Next Tuesday is the airdate of my first episode.🙀
Im really honored to now join this community of underground DJs who largely identify as BIPOC and LGBTQ. HalfMoonBK has grown a reputation of highly curated sounds that hold to the roots of electronic music for their station as well as live events across the nation which even had landed them a stage during the Boiler Room Festival in NYC last September. Im excited to be part of the mix and to learn and grow with this community. Like with RadioFreeBrooklyn i will be doing hybrid live and prerecorded shows, dropping in to HalfMoonBk's new studio location in Chinatown whenever i'm back in NYC.

That means you can hear my mixes on 2 online radio stations now! 💿⏮🆗️⏭💿... while with Virtual Voyager i've leaned towards deep house/tech vibes, my new show Glitch Mode will have more elements of industrial bass/breakbeat, and hip hop. Im excited to experiment with more sounds and mashups on this new show.
