I’m not usually the person floating through a room making small talk or collecting photos for the sake of being seen.

But every now and then, a moment reminds you why you’re there.

Meeting Andrew wasn’t just meeting a speaker at Engage. It was meeting a fellow Morehouse brother who chose to honor the legacy of another Morehouse brother through the Ralph Lauren x SpelHouse collaboration. A reminder that our stories, our institutions, and our contributions deserve to be preserved and celebrated.

What stayed with me most wasn’t the presentation. It was the warmth. The embrace. The continued support in an industry that can sometimes make you feel like you need to fit someone else’s mold to belong.

Today feels like a fitting reminder that what we’re building is bigger than a moment, a title, or even a seat at the table. It’s legacy. It’s roots. It’s the intentional work of weaving ourselves back into spaces where our presence was once limited.

So here’s to showing up fully as yourself.

Keep making waves.
Keep honoring where you come from.
And keep giving others permission to do the same.

What stayed with me was that even after twenty years of marriage and a divorce, that was still the first thing he spoke about.
