Gatherings Floral Design

Punk Ikebana by stirred something in my creative soul when I first flipped through a floral design student's copy a couple years ago. In her Introduction, Roebuck observed that those in a movement are rarely able to define it; the broad strokes of description come from cultural and intellectual analysts.

"...let's keep questioning, asking, probing, and being provocative in the spirit of 'do no harm.'" This is peaceful punk.
•
There is respect in acknowledging our roots, the rules we've learned under, and in creating outside those rules as well. The work in this book is accompanied by thoughtful reflection; the images are gorgeous, peaceful and stirring simultaneously.

I look forward to diving into this book and growing in my own creative practices by pondering and digesting all that Roebuck shares. Thank you to my OG sister for sharing your windfall and bringing inspiration into my days.

Classes continue this week, with Fundamentals of Style! This morning, the class is creating Dutch still-life inspired arrangements in primary colors, open, airy designs and contrasted backgrounds.

Yesterday's class with was such a gift. Inspired by book, Jamie and I spent the day with students, exploring what inspires French florals and how lovely these elements are to photograph! Sharing and learning alongside our students was wonderful!

Low-key cannot decide which side of this arrangement I enjoy more. I’m partial to the side with echinacea, which I cut from my garden. They bring me so much happiness!
