About Amendment 18

Amendment 18 is Staten Island’s longest-running live-music venue.

Amendment 18 is located in the Historic Edgewater Hall. Edgewater Hall was built in 1876 as a Vaudeville, Theatre & Event space by Michael Nynan. During the late 1890’s Bechtel Brewery made its home there and during Prohibition, Amendment 18 was a Speakeasy frequented by the Vanderbilts & Barrymores. Edgewater Hall was acquired & run by Volunteers of America from 1940 to 1970. In the 1970’s it was converted into an antique center by John Gray & Anthony Deorato.

In 1978 Barbara & Jerry Underhill opened Oddsbodkins in the cellar and from there on Great Food has been served and Great Music has been played. Amendment 18 has also been the home of Dock of the Bay, Uncle Bourbons & Dock Street. For the past four decades, rock, jazz and hip-hop legends have graced our stages.Rock acts include Jefferson Airplane, Dr John, Jorma Kaukonen from Hot Tuna, Tommy Price from the Joan Jett band, Kasmin Sultan from Utopia Jimmie Mack, Earl Slick and David Johanson aka Buster Poindexter.

Hip Hop legends include the Method Man, Redman, Cameron, Capodonna, Rae Kwon, Ghostface, Inspectah Deck, Doey Rock and Heltah Sheltah. The late 90’s into the turn of the century focused on the underground scene to include Hardcore, Ska, Punk and Metal. Acts included John DeServio from Black Label Society, MadBall, Dan Nelson from Anthrax to name a few.
