Acclaimed soprano Sonya Headlam and pianist Martin Néron have assembled an enthralling repertoire for our forthcoming performance at the Redeemer Concert Series in Astoria. Their program honors the diverse musical heritage of gifted Black composers from various regions worldwide, traversing centuries of musical creativity.

Audiences can anticipate a captivating showcase featuring excerpts from Ignatius Sancho's "Collection of New Songs," a fiery aria by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, as well as iconic compositions by Margaret Bonds. Additionally, the concert will spotlight a solo piano piece by Haitian composer Ludovic Lamothe, alongside Jamaican folk arrangements arranged by Peter Ashbourne.

The audience will be treated to two enchanting songs from the recently commissioned "Reflections," a thought-provoking song cycle crafted by the American composer and educator Trevor Weston. Inspired from the profound insights found within Ignatius Sancho's published letters, Weston skillfully bridges the gap between past and present, weaving together poignant melodies with Sancho's timeless words to create a truly immersive musical experience.
