Remembering poet and Kamilah Aisha Moon on Poetry Month.

This photograph was taken in 2013 in November in an awe-inspiring space in DUMBO Brooklyn, NY. This was the evening of Kamilah Aisha Moon’s launch party for her poetry book “She Has A Name”.

After the speeches, and the readings by amazing guest poets honoring Kamilah and her master piece, the chairs were moved to the side and the carpet rolled up (so to speak) and it was on!

The food and wine was plentiful, the music was slamming, and we just simply had a good ole time!

I learned that evening that Kamilah loved dancing, especially with her sisters; and boy could they, and did they dance!

Kamilah Aisha Moon’s beautiful and calm, protective and loving spirit is sorely missed on earth.

May her spirit continue to dance!

Gone but not forgotten.

Hey Brooklynites don’t miss the group art exhibition “Sky’s The Limit: Music Is My Resistance” at the Billie Holiday Theater Gallery!!!

Paying homage to Brooklyn’s own Christopher (Notorious B.I.G) Wallace, with the amazing sculptor created by artist Sherwin Banfield, the exhibition explores the role of music in the journey, survival, and advancement of our people.

The opening reception is this Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 7pm.

I attended the Billie Holiday Theater's Summerstage Jazz Series at the Restoration Plaza in Bedford Stuyvestant Brooklyn. The featured artists were Claudia Acuna, Steff Reed and Thomas Pride and they were phenomenal!!
Dj Jahmedicine spun and did not disappoint as we waited for the next act to appear, and after the event.
There are only two more performances left in the series, August 18th and 25th. Don't miss them, for if you do, not only will you miss the music, you will miss the joy and laughter that comes with it! .hollis.mr

I attended Morrison Hotel Gallery in Soho. Artist Barron Clairborne’s iconic image of Biggie Small posed in crown was one of the many images of legendary Hip Hop artists that was displayed. The gallery space was packed and entry was only permitted via RSVP.
If you get the opportunity to stop by this exhibit you, will not be disappointed.

All I can say is that you HAVE to visit Brooklyn’s main public on Grand Army Plaza to checkout Jay-Z’s inspiring lyrics that is wall papered on the historic building. It’s simply majestic!

I attended the opening art reception “In The Blood” presented by Arco Gallery and Anderson Contemporary at the beautiful building 180 Maiden Lane located by the water front downtown Manhattan.
The exhibit features 4 artists which include Francks Deceus and Laura James who shares their Caribbean roots. The exhibit is a must see!!
