Exciting news! My first cookbook, In The Kusina: My Seasonal Filipino Cooking, is officially available for PRE-ORDER!

This book captures my journey through a vibrant array of veggie-focused recipes, all from my unique perspective as a q***r Filipino American. These are not your traditional Lola’s recipes; instead, I’ve reimagined Filipino flavors with a fresh twist, designed for today’s home cooks. Each recipe is organized by season, offering a stylish, bold approach that highlights in-season ingredients and beautiful presentation.

I’ve always aimed to bring a light and fresh vibe to Filipino cooking, giving classic dishes a modern flair that appeals to first-gen cooks and anyone craving new Asian-inspired flavors.

Two Sundays ago on August 4th in Upstate New York, I collaborated with Chef of on a Californian-Filipino pop-up event dedicated to my Lola’s 103rd Birthday. The summery menu we served included:

- Falafel lumpia with pickled jalapeno vinegar dipping sauce, lettuces, mint, and basil
- Tomato and cucumber salad with fish sauce vinaigrette and makrut lime cashews
- Grilled summer squash with lemongrass coconut milk, confit sungolds, purslane, and spiced toasted coconut flakes
- Napa cabbage with goldenberry gremolata and white onion
- Roast chicken adobo with eggplant, wild hive navy beans, and fried garlic
- Herb salad
- Blueberry bibingka with creme fraiche semifreddo

This pop-up event was a delightful fusion of Californian and Filipino flavors, celebrating my Lola’s special milestone.

Last Wednesday, I had the honor of bringing the Kamayan dining tradition to life at in partnership with . The evening kicked off with a collective hand washing ceremony, setting the stage for a contemporary Kamayan feast influenced by the abundance of summer’s colorful harvest and tropical greenery. Guests congregated around a communal table covered in banana leaves, savoring dishes with their hands in a gesture of solidarity and community. The night ended with a captivating live dessert display, heightening the sensory experience and leaving a lasting impression on all the guests.

Hey Upstate Folks! On August 4th, Chef and I come together to collaborate on a Filipino - California feast that you won’t want to miss. Join us for a special and abundant family style Sunday Supper at where we celebrate the legacy of my grandmother’s cooking. My Lola, Dominga, greatly influenced my culinary journey. As an immigrant from the Philippines who made her way to California through Illinois, she was the source of inspiration for me and played a significant role in shaping the chef that I am today. We will be sourcing ingredients from the Hudson Valley to create a bright and herbaceous menu that will both refresh and satisfy you on a delightful August evening. Come join us for Dominga Dinner, which also happens to fall on her birthday, as we pay tribute to her name with a special Sunday Supper.

We have opened up additional seats for the Artists Table x dining experience at ! Join me for a contemporary vegetable-centric kamayan dinner. Kamayan is a traditional Filipino feast with a rich precolonial history. Guests will be seated at a communal table, with the delicious food spread out on banana leaves, inviting everyone to interact and enjoy the meal with their hands. Kamayan fosters togetherness, informal conversations, and shared moments.
