It’s not very often that “the little black girl” gets to present to a room full of other races and she’s 1/3 in the room. Today I had the opportunity on behalf of the CDC and DEA to present on How to Enhance and Maintain Public Health and Public Safety Relationships within our communities in Utah!

I started my conversation off with providing information on my background - explaining my education and experience and eyes widened, I had to take a step back but then I realized why, it’s because of the statement above, I’m the little black girl in the room. This isn’t a post to gloat or brag but I wanna say take those steps, step outside of your comfort zone and demand your respect with your actions NEVER WORDS OF MOUTH!

Some key points from my response to the questions from the group:

Enhance PHPSP by:
1) Focus on the partner (success hinges on the value delivered to the partner – this can be anything from delivering a better, more cohesive experience or be a solution that unlocks something new – when the value is defined from either perspective, the partnership is well on their way to great success),
2) Consider the “how”, not just the “what”
(once you determine what you’re delivering, you need to figure out how to deliver it…often this is the most complicated and difficult component of a partnership but ultimately it requires commitment, collaboration, and trust – this is the recipe to building a healthy relationship. You want to ensure you know who the partners are, their culture, and how do they measure success – by gaining a deep understanding of their values and business, you can do better enhancing those partnerships), &
3) Don’t boil the ocean (and what I mean by that is focus on a sellable solution and not solely attempting to sell a vision).

The words his Drill Sergeant and Squad Leader expressed to me solidifies that I did a good job with The Kid…they spoke nothing but praises of him…and the last words of his Drill Sergeant were “I told him there’s only two of my soldiers that I would allow to lead my company and he’s one of them” He makes me so proud.

Happy Heavenly Birthday Nana…the love you had for my baby could never be explained in words and this pic says it all. Who gives a 5yo a pacifier just cause they say they wanted one…Nana would cause whatever TT wanted Nana made sure she had it. I love you forever because I never had to question your love for my baby…I knew just about every weekend you were pulling up to pick up your TT, then y’all would stop at KFC to get dinner then head to your house for a weekend of Operation Spoil TT. You were “My Nana” to TT and for that you will always be My Nana as well…
