This Juneteenth, join award-winning journalist Imara Jones to watch the PBS World documentary, “American Problems, Trans Solutions” where she travels across the country to tell the stories of three Black trans leaders on the frontlines of change. Despite a record-breaking number of anti-trans bills housing advocate Kayla Gore; Breonna McCree, a champion for economic empowerment; and Oluchi Omeoga who fights for the rights of migrants work tirelessly to address these critical issues with heart and vision. The screening will be followed by talkback moderated by Imara with Gore, McGree and Omeoga.

“American Problems, Trans Solutions” is a production of TransLash Media in association with The WNET Group’s Chasing the Dream initiative.

Singers Siman Chung, Yi Li, Ying Fang, and pianist Katelan Trần Terrell perform familiar repertoire and musical selections that reflect the rich tapestry of their heritage. Plus, a conversation with the singers moderated by Debra Lew Harder, including composer Huang Ruo and Tony Award-winning scenic designer Mimi Lien.

Having The Kennedy Center Composer-in-Residence Carlos Simon and cellist Seth Parker Woods on our stage with WQXR was the perfect way to kick off a season of genre-spanning concerts and meaningful conversations at The Greene Space at WNYC/WQXR.

While Carlos performed many beautiful variations of African American spirituals, this performance of Amazing Grace moved the audience to tears.🕊️

Kia LaBeija grew up in a musical household in the heart of NYC. Her father, Warren Benbow, is a renowned jazz musician who has played with everyone from LL Cool J and Whitney Houston to Nina Simone and Eddie Gómez. Her brother, Kenn Michael, is also an accomplished musician and actor.

On Friday at 7PM, they will take the stage together and explore the bond of a family through the shared experience of musical performance.

The uninhabited strip of land off the Bronx in the Long Island Sound has over a million people buried there, and many are shrouded in mystery. This new series tells the stories of seven people who were laid to rest on Hart Island through a range of circumstances.

Come and hear their stories as told by those who knew them best, some of whom overcame tremendous obstacles to uncover what happened to their loved ones.

Founded by Rebecca Lehrer and Amy Choi, The Mash-Up Americans show explores what it means to live in the melting pot culture of the United States and gives insight into how to laugh, learn, and thrive in this increasingly cross-cultural, multi-hyphen modern society.

Their residency kicks off on Wednesday, October 11th at 7PM. They'll sit with notable guest author and journalist Min Jin Lee to discuss what it feels like to be Korean at this epic moment of Koreanness and explore New York identity.
