Award wining actor Laurence Fishburne gets personal in his new one man show "Like They Do in the Movies" at the Perleman Performing Arts Center through March 31. Each sketch, whether about his own rather complicated childhoor or an invented character, is riveting. Ready for St. Patrick's Day?
I've already had my Irish Soda Bread. Thanks to Tourism Ireland and Bog & Thunder, a lovely pre-St, Patrick's Day lunch at April Bloomfield's new hotspot Sailor in Brooklyn featured Ballymaloe breasds, wild smoked Irish salmon, a succulent pork loin and a traditional Carrageen Moss pudding. Guest of honor chef Darina Allen of Ballymaloe Cookery School charmed guests and encouraged them to try baking the famous soda bread themselves. She provided a copy of her new Ballymaloe Bread Book to everyone to make sure they had the recipe. It's so simple she says "You wouldn't have found your car keys and be back from the shops by the time it's baked!"

Sad Goodbye
The food world has lost a great chef with the passing of David Bouley. He was a true pioneer of fine dining in New York, of farm to table, and a mentor to many. His restaurant was magical. It felt like stepping in the South of France. He will be missed.

Save Room for Dessert
Fabulous festive lunch today at L'Avenue at Saks. Congrats to the RA team for this lovely menu and experience. And Pastry chef Stefanie Oliviera knocks it out of the park with her decadent desserts like the fig pavlova with fig compote and the Ornament--a dark chocolate orb willed with eucalyptus ice cream and pured over peppermint chocolate sauce. The artichoke, tomato, hazelnut, and green bean salad was a perfect foil.

Two chefs from this French ski enclave brought some fantastic flavors to Daniel Boulud's Le Pavillon Thursday. Chefs Jean-Remi Caillon and Pieter Riedijk prepared split peas with pork belly, mousseline of trout with chard and dll butter (lots of butter) and a fantastic poached apricot dessert with pineapple, passion fruit and Mandarin orange sorbet. Apparently French skiers don't slow down for just a sandwich.
