As some of you may know, the Book Club takes a break during the summer and meets again in September to discuss three books!

Since this year is an Olympic Games year, the selected books share a theme: 2 take place in Greece, the homeland of the original Olympics, and the 3rd book takes place at the 1936 Olympics.

The Island, by Victoria Hislop: A number one bestseller in the UK, this captivating and epic tale of family ties, romance, war, disease, and history is set on the beautiful Greek Island of Crete.

My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Durrell: The first book in Gerald Durrell’s Corfu Trilogy: a bewitching account of a rare and magical childhood on the island of Corfu, which was the inspiration for the Masterpiece PBS series The Durrells in Corfu.

The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown:
The #1 New York Times bestselling true story about the American rowing triumph of the 1936 Olympics in Berlin—from the author of Facing the Mountain

On Wednesday, July 10 at 7, join acclaimed author Francis S. Barry and Assembly Member Bobby Carroll for a discussion of Barry’s new book about what holds our country together — and how we can keep it together, even amidst political divisions that have grown increasingly rancorous, bitter, and exhausting – drawn from a recent transcontinental journey on the Lincoln Highway, which zigzags through small towns and big cities from Times Square to San Francisco.

Join us on Saturday, June 15th @ 6 in the Board Room for the Montauk Tasting Club’s inaugural whiskey event: Drams for Dads and The People Who Love Them!

Just in time to celebrate Father’s Day, whether you’re a seasoned whiskey connoisseur or a curious novice, this tasting is designed to be accessible, educational and enjoyable for everyone.

Our goal is to demystify the world of whiskey and offer a guided tour through a diverse selection of whiskies that showcase the rich variety of flavors. Starting with an Irish whiskey, progressing to a Speyside or Highland Scotch, migrate to a classic American Bourbon, then explore the spicy character of a Rye whiskey, and finish with a bold, peated Islay Scotch.

This thoughtfully curated lineup will slowly increase the complexity in flavor, giving you an opportunity to find a whiskey flavor profile you love, arming you with the confidence to navigate whiskey menus with ease in the future, and connecting you with fellow club members and whiskey aficionados. Come join us and be part of this exciting inaugural tour.

Sponsored by JC Rojas & Liz Yetter

▪ Please note that there is a $15 charge for the tasting.
▪ Please RSVP to [email protected]
▪ Limited to 20 people total (members and guests), after which there will be a waitlist.

On Friday, June 7th, at 7, join our next Book Club meeting! The book we chose to read is “Shakespeare, The Man Who Pays the Rent”, a memoir by Judi Dench.

For the very first time, Judi opens up about every Shakespearean role she has played throughout her seven-decade career.
From Lady Macbeth and Titania to Ophelia and Cleopatra, she guides us through Shakespeare’s plays with incisive clarity, revealing the secrets of her rehearsal process and inviting us to share in her triumphs, disasters, and backstage shenanigans.
Instructive and witty, provocative and inspiring, this is ultimately Judi’s love letter to Shakespeare, or rather, The Man Who Pays The Rent.

Join the Brooklyn Women’s Club on Wednesday, May 15th @ 7 for a talk from Willie Mae Brown, the author of My Selma.

“As the civil rights movement and the fight for voter rights unfold in Selma, Alabama, many things happen inside and outside the Brown family’s home that do not have anything to do with the landmark 1965 march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Yet the famous outrages which unfold on that span form an inescapable backdrop in this collection of stories about the everyday and the extraordinary. In one, twelve-year-old Willie Mae takes it upon herself to offer summer babysitting services to a glamorous single white mother—a secret she keeps from her parents that unravels with shocking results. In another, Willie Mae reluctantly joins her mother at a church rally, and is forever changed.
