DJ Walter V, representing NYC nightlife since 1977
Walter Valeriani, known as DJ Walter V, is not only one of NYC’s finest DJs. but also someone who can reflect on every famous era in NYC nightlife since the 70s, and say “I was there providing the soundtrack”. Walter was scouted by Steve Rubell a few years before he launched Studio 54, and thus the young DJ went in a short period from playing at home parties in The Bronx to the person in charge of keeping celebrities on the dance floor in the hottest nightclub in the world. His spot behind the decks at Studio 54, and his ability to sense new musical trends and to always stay slightly ahead of the curve, made him the to-go-to DJ for everyone who opened a club in NYC during the decades that followed. From Berlin to Danceteria, from Tunnel to Limelight, Walter flawlessly felt what people wanted to hear, and always managed to add something new and fresh to the mix that makes for his unique “sauce’, as he calls it. His residencies in New York hot spots led to various international tours, especially in Japan where he toured extensively. Now in his 60s, he continues his musical journey by combining all the impressions of NYC nightlife from the past decades, sometimes specifically catering to certain eras and styles, and other times creating a journey through multiple decades of Dance Music including today’s hottest new sounds.
