You’re looking to have an event at The light house at ? We love working here and have planned corporate & personal celebrations here. While these are two very styles of events there are a few things we’ve learnt that affect events whether it’s a personal celebration or corporate.

Transportation- The ceiling height in the garage limits your transportation height size. Here are a few ways to handle that.

✨If you absolutely need a large coach bus. Guests need to be dropped off outside of the garage property. While this is okay for your average guest parking if you have anyone with mobility concerns or just don’t want certain vip guests to walk we opted to use the golf cart for a handful of attendees. Our vip speakers for our fundraiser had pre booked private cars and avoided this all together. If you only have a handful of out of town guests that need transportation I’d recommend doing smaller vans that can drive into the lot without any problem.

You’re contracted for a standard five hours? Think about time before. Do you want to have a Ketubah signing or hair and makeup onsite etc? Factor in additional hours in your budget so you can tahr advantage of the onsite additional private rooms.

Pipe & drape- Do you want to create the illusion of different spaces within? Pipe & drape is a great way to section off cocktail space from the slightly elevated location where dinner reception & entertainment is usually held. Otherwise the space is beautifully open but guests can see from point a to point b which may or may not be desirable for you.

Three more events to go and then we will be fully focused on our full service and partial clients for 2025. Working in events I feel like the time moves so much quicker since we are hyper focus on dates & timing. Right now my planning world is a mix of ~

✨Finalizing details for current events. At this point it’s very logistics based. Getting final numbers in for food & beverage. Confirming last rentals. Cleaning up floor plans, timelines and answering questions for vendors.
✨Speaking with potential clients for 25 & 26.
✨ Onboarding new clients.
✨ Booking vendors and creating design details for full service & partial clients.

Here are a few venues we will be back to for 2025 to name a few. We reside between Jersey city & Hudson Valley but work all over the north east & destination.

Four weeks ago our Poochie crossed the rainbow at 19.5. We got him at 14 from the kill list thinking he’d survive a year. He thrived and lived the best life. He was the greatest. Three months ago Susie passed at 11, we got her a year prior as a foster which turned to hospice and the promise to give her the greatest time left that she deserved. Anyone that knows me or has followed for a while has had the chance to meet them either on a site visit, a cuddle or pics in my stories. Rescue is a huge part of my life. Through the years it went from walking dogs to fostering cats and then fostering dogs. If you scroll to the last pic you’ll see the condition Susie came in at when rescued by the ladies of What I’ve learnt from being a volunteer as rescue?
✨ Animals are pure of heart & we don’t deserve them.
✨ They teach us patience, unconditional love & remind us to slow down.
✨ Take the pictures and videos.
✨ As a business owner I’ve realized the ability to compartmentalis my person life when I need to because my client’s deserve professionalism and full presence on their event or wedding day.

For the rest of September and October 5% of any full service events booked will go towards rescues that pull from the north east. Specially those that pull from high risk shelters. If you’re curious about adopting or fostering I’m always here to share my experience.

Happy ten year anniversary, time moves way too fast. Here’s a few things I’ve learnt along the way.

✨Don’t marry for money, but marry the person that has a vision & goals. I married a kinda poor ish guy at the time but he was a hard worker, intelligent and kind. Now we enjoy a prosperous life together.
✨ Have the wedding you mostly want as a couple. Family can be tough with opinions but it’s tough to add clients of mine that I know would have done things differently on their wedding day.
✨ Sickness & health is also regarding mental health.
✨ Have your own friend group. I love that we have shared relationships and Jay is the first to help out a friend of mine but we also have our own lives. Remember women mostly outlive men, sorry to be morbid but it’s true.
✨ Be able to travel with them but also give the gift of freedom to each other. It’s nice to miss someone then come back & have stories to share.
✨ Life changes you, let the other person grow.
✨ Have each other’s backs first. Unfortunately at times that also means taking them first over family.
✨ Marry the person you have FUN with. Life can be crappy sometimes and you gotta laugh about it.

Event pro refresh, a wellness retreat for women in the event industry~ Jan 23-28,2025. What are some activities we have on the radar for our guests?

✨CHICHICASTENANGO MARKET- This is the twice-weekly market day, when thousands of locals and visitors come to buy and sell at what is thought to be the largest, most colourful, and most famous outdoor market in all Central America.

✨Sound Bath Ceremony- A sound bath is a full-body meditative experience where people lie down and listen to resonant sounds.

✨Mayan cacao ceremony- The ceremony involves consuming a specially prepared cacao mixture in a sacred setting, often accompanied by music, meditation, and personal reflection. The ceremony’s primary focus is on spiritual introspection, emotional healing, and community bonding.

✨A private chef experience for all three meals.

✨A waterfall or sunset hike.

Hi my name is Dawn and I’m the owner of Skylar Arden Events & Design.
* The origin of Skylar Arden Events name came from a combination of an actress I loved named Sky in her soap opera role and my best friend and Associates favorite name Arden.
* I’ve been in business for eight years. I started in the service industry post college because fashion entry level pay wasn’t good. I did everything from cocktail waitressing, bartending, event planning for indie rock events and I assisted much more experienced event planners. After getting laid off in fashion one to many times to count I launched my own company. Following a couple more years of freelance in fashion post launch I left that world forever and went full time in events. I do use my experience creating mood boards for stores buyers to designing multiple page decks for my clients. It’s all a learning process in life. Even the bad moments can create positive growth.
* I pride in efficient follow up for my clients within a couple of business days, but also strive to have a lifestyle balance. None of us can pour from an empty cup. Nor should any of us.
* My favorite events are full service which includes design. I love creating a customized experience based on my clients vision and then some. I believe my creative background in the arts since a child can help elevate your day.
* I love destination planning and recently decided to combine my passion for wellness with events. My first wellness retreats will be next Jan 23-28 at Lake Atitlan, Guatemala for women in the event industry.
* When I’m not working I’m traveling, working out, spending time with my rescue pups, kitties ✨husband and ✨friends💕.
* I reside between Jersey City & Hudson Valley.
* I never want my clients to apologize for skipping what they think is traditional. Your event and or wedding day is about YOU with layers of thoughtfulness woven throughout.

I get asked often if lounge spaces are needed for events. I do try to fit this into initial budgeting for a few reasons.

✨ It’s a great space for photos.
✨ Events are full of lots of energy and it can be overwhelming for some so to have a place for my clients to take a breather away from their table or for guests to take a break is important.
✨ It’s a good option for guests with mobility issues or older guests to get a good view of dancing without actually dancing.
✨ A lounge space can tie things in from a design perspective as well as brighten up a quiet corner which would ultimately be empty.
✨ I like to have one or two for cocktail hour as well as reception, often times we use them for welcome dinners & the wedding day.
✨ We love design and more is more if budgeted well.

Our design direction, verse professional shots & actual production. This was such a fun one to work on. With florals we work alongside our preferred florist or a florist hired by our clients. They have access to our design deck to understand the overall vibe & colors. We defer to their thoughts on available florals, what’s actually doing well in the market that week and let them take their creative spin on things. Trusting in your vendors is number one in making the process run well. For our design direction & full service clients we help with anything from table mock-ups, rentals, color direction & even attire choices for your wedding party.

What’s my design direction package? This package is included in full service planning or can be added on to coordination or partial planning.
What’s my process?
-Our clients fill out a brief form or we can take notes on a call. Questions like color interest, vision, hobbies and travel are asked in detail to figure out the direction you see your event.
-Next we create a design deck which includes color direction, materials, desired florals, possible rentals, table mockups and more to give a clear picture of your event day or multiple days. We type call give 2-3 rounds of edits. Swipe left to right for mockups and actual end results.
