Mark your calendars, ABC is airing a new documentary, “Ghost Light: Broadway’s Long Intermission” this Saturday May 22, at 7:30pm.
ABC takes an in-depth look at the human cost of the Broadway shut down including everyone from the obvious, the performers, to the lesser known industries that rely on the performing arts like florists, dry cleaners, an ENT Doctor who treats the voices of Broadway singer, and the members of the Costume Industry Coalition.
While news of Broadway reopening is being treated as a “beacon of hope” for a city that has endured so much, the impact of live theatre returning has yet to impact those businesses who support it. Small businesses like those of the CIC, continue to struggle, operating at a fraction of capacity, and face an uphill battle to recover from the financial hardships of the industry wide shut-down. Broadway is only one piece of the puzzle. The costume industry relies on the entire entertainment industry, from Broadway, Film, TV, Dance, Opera, Arena Shows, Ice Shows, Concerts, Theme Parks, and Cruise Ships. With government assistance in question or insufficient, and sustainable orders still a long ways off, the CIC has created a Recovery Fund to help provide relief for the custom costume industry waiting for the return of live entertainment. We know there are so many worthy causes during these unprecedented times. If you’re able, we hope you will give a gift to the CIC in support of our remarkable costume artists. If not please continue to support and applify our cause.
You can catch the documentary on ABC this Saturday, May 22nd at 7:30pm. Act I and Act II of the documentary are now streaming on the ABC7NY apps on Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Android TV. To stream, search "ABC7 New York" in the app store.
