Children’s Performing Arts Academy (year-round program)
CREATIVITY THROUGH DANCE
Children are taught to IMPROVISE ON-THE-SPOT and approach tasks from different perspectives. Children are asked to use personal experience that encourages them to dance from their souls. When children have practice thinking creatively, it will come naturally to them now and later in their careers.
CONFIDENCE THROUGH DRAMA/THEATER
The skills children develop through theater not only train them how to convincingly deliver a message, but also build the confidence they need to take command of a stage. Theater training gives children practice in stepping out of their comfort zone and allows them to make mistakes and learn from them in rehearsal in a historical black box theater!
COLLABORATION THROUGH VOCAL MUSIC
Children practice working together, and compromising with others to accomplish a common goal. When a child has a part to play in a music ensemble, they begin to understand that their contribution is necessary for the success of the group. Through these experiences children start to learn that their contributions have value even if they don’t have the biggest role.
2nd Friday Soul Line Dance and Game Night (Every 2nd Friday of the Month)
Soul Line Dancing is the Electric Slide x 1000. It’s a unified movement of choreographed steps with anywhere from 2 to thousands of dancers who seem to magically know when to slide, dip, twist, shuffle and cross-and-kick. Whether it’s flash-mob style at a family reunion, BBQ, park or wedding or whether it’s a structured class or dance party, the energy and communal aspect is undeniably contagious. For many devout participants, Soul Line Dancing is a way of life – literally dancing across America traveling to weekend workshops, celebrations or 1-day socials.
What’s great is that many dancers consider the health benefits of dancing. In a recent on-site survey, the top 5 reasons people Soul Line Dance were:
· to reduce stress/mental escape
· to exercise/stay physically active
· to make friends/socialize
· to help their heart/cardiovascular health
· because there’s no age limit/anyone can dance
