Dear old friends,

A little over 2 years ago we had to make the hard decision to close Olive Tree Cafe. We promised we would try to come back in one way or another, and we finally have! WE ARE BACK.

We purchased an existing restaurant right down the road that met a few of our needs, including a convenient location with parking and a large kitchen and prep area to expand our catering business. While the space does not allow for the same dine in experience, the food is the same.

What does this mean? It means there are now 2 ways to enjoy Olive Tree Cafe food:

1. Takeout, delivery, and limited dine in at our new restaurant NY Fried Chicken & Mediterranean Grill in Brookside Plaza, Newark.

This restaurant is owned and operated by Elias, using the same suppliers and cooks as at Olive Tree Cafe! This new restaurant is very different than the last, with no table service and a new menu. We added many of your favorites from the old place to the existing menu - hence the long name. We are serving Mediterranean favorites including gyros, falafel, shawarma, spanakopita, dips, salads, soups, baklava, and a variety of items over rice including salmon, roast chicken, seafood, and more - in addition to the American part of the menu that specializes in fried chicken (with our own special breading blend and always fresh chicken only), along with fried seafood, cheese steaks, burgers, mozzarella sticks, mashed potatoes, banana pudding, and much more. It may seem like a strange combination, but it actually allows the entire family to be sure to find something they want, all in one place! While we know you'll love the old favorites, we think you'll love the new items as well. All meats are halal and everything is prepared with the same care as you'd expect from Elias' team.

Starting next week the entire menu will be available to order online and through partners like Door Dash. For now the Mediterranean items can be ordered via phone call (302-533-5460) or by walking in.

2. Catering from the full Olive Tree Cafe menu

Need delicious Mediterranean food for your holiday or work party, or other special occasion? Everything from our old menu is available! Moussaka, tagines, and pastitsio and more can be made especially for your group! Our catering business has expanded and we now have the space to do it! (We can also cater any of our American items- need large trays of chicken tenders and macaroni and cheese for a picky crowd? Fried chicken or cheesesteaks for a get together? We can do it!) Elias will prepare your catering orders and can work with you to meet your tastes and budget.

Dear friends,

Thank you for your patience as we took some time to regroup this summer. As some of you know, Elias, the owner, was abroad visiting family for a while as well as spending some much needed time with family here in Delaware. These past few years have been very physically and emotionally challenging, and we appreciate all of the well wishes and support throughout the pandemic and when we announced we needed to close for a while.

After much thought, we have decided to close our current location. However, our hope is that this is not a permanent goodbye, but rather an opportunity to find a better way to provide delicious, healthy food to friends in our community - in a way that allows a better balance between work and home life.

Elias is in discussions with potential partners who can help with the daily operations. He is considering a few options, including finding a better location in Newark (not far, but closer to many of you) and figuring out a smaller, easier operation. At the very least we hope to be able to offer catering for groups in the near future.

We look forward to sharing more news when we have it.
