Join the City of Newberry for Business After Hours with the Newberry County Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, July 16 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. The reception will be held at the Edward Kyzer Newberry Firehouse Conference Center and a chance for a meet and greet with City Manager Jason Taylor.

Have you noticed the name change? 🤩

City Council recently passed a resolution naming our facility, the Edward Kyzer Newberry Firehouse Conference Center!

The resolution reads as follows:

WHEREAS, Edward Kyzer served as Mayor of the City of Newberry from 1990 to 2010; and
WHEREAS, many strides were made during his twenty-year tenure as Mayor; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Kyzer led the transformation of the old fire station into a first-class conference center, the Newberry Firehouse Conference Center, which received an Award of Excellent from the SC Community Development Association and an Honor Award for historic preservation from the Governor; and
WHEREAS, the renovation and opening of the Newberry Opera House, new city buildings, including City Hall and Police/Fire station on Nance Street; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Kyzer is responsible for the recruitment of the Hampton Inn downtown, rehabilitation of the old Newberry Hospital into affordable housing for senior citizens and other downtown development and revitalization; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Kyzer established a successful sister-city relationship between the City of Newberry and Hamm, Germany.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWBERRY, SOUTH CAROLINA:
In honor of the many accomplishments of Mayor Edward Kyzer and in great appreciation, the Newberry Firehouse Conference Center will be named Edward Kyzer Newberry Firehouse Conference Center.

A picture, signage and biography will be placed at the site.

Many thanks to the South Carolina State Court Reporter’s for choosing Newberry and the Firehouse Conference Center to host the annual conference. There have been wonderful comments about the hospitality they received throughout the city to include the Opera House tours, fun and entertainment at Bar Figaro, great lunches from the Market, the beauty and peacefulness of the Japanese Garden, visits to the Art Center, and shopping and eating downtown.
