> Let’s talk Daffodils 😍
While the flowers these bulbs produce are showstoppers, they can also be problematic in cut bouquets.. here’s why:
When daffodils are cut, they secrete a chemical from the bottom of the stem called narciclasine. This is completely normal but it can cause other cut flowers (especially tulips and roses) in the bouquet to wilt and wither.
Here’s how to prevent it:
Place your freshly cut daffodil stems in a bucket or vase of water to sit for 4 hours by themselves. Remove the stems and then add to other fresh cuts (in fresh water, of course). This time alone will allow the narciclasine to naturally excrete from your daffodils, without negatively effecting any other spring flowers in the process.
The more you know, the merrier. Now you can enjoy your spring blooms for longer 💛
