🌴✨ Recap of the 66th Annual MEMBER-GUEST Golf Tournament 🌟

What a night! The ‘A NIGHT IN MIAMI’ party on Saturday, June 8th, was an absolute hit! Members and their guests gathered poolside for an unforgettable evening filled with the energy of Miami vibes. 🎉

Our DJ kept the beats flowing while everyone enjoyed a wide array of delicious offerings:

🍔🎉 What a blast we had at The Powelton Club’s Memorial Day BBQ! Thanks to everyone who came out to kick off summer with us. From the sizzling grills to the cool tunes of Hudson Valley Bluegrass, it was a day to remember!

🍤 Our PC Raw Bar started things with fresh littleneck clams and poached shrimp, while the Jalapeño Popper Dip and Watermelon Gazpacho set the stage for a feast. BBQ favorites like mole-rubbed St. Louis ribs, Polynesian glazed chicken, and burgers filled our plates and hearts.
🍰 The sweet ending? Vanilla sprinkle cake, Jane’s Ice Cream Sundae Bar, and Ghirardelli brownies under the summer sky.

🌸 What an amazing Mother's Day Brunch at The Powelton Club! A heartfelt thanks to all who joined us to celebrate the incredible moms in our lives.
The brunch featured everything from traditional Eggs Benedict and Belgian waffles with cinnamon apples to expertly carved honey-lavender glazed chicken and garlic-rubbed beef tenderloin. Our dessert stations, including the Jane's Ice Cream Sundae Bar and Lemon Raspberry Cheesecake, were the cherry on top!🍧

🌷 What a fabulous Powelton Club Ladies Spring Brunch!
It was a delightful mix of tasty bites, fashion finds, and fantastic company.

Powelton Club as it was in 1892

In April of 1892, The Powelton Club received its charter and seal of incorporation. The Board of Directors signed a five-year lease with the Ramsdell estate. By provisions of the by- laws, the club would be governed by a board of eleven members elected at an annual meeting. The Board would then elect the executive committee from its members. Following the incorporation, the Board proposed that a clubhouse be built to include a dance hall, bowling alley, and dressing rooms.
Annual dues stood at $10.00 for the men and $5.00 for the women. Baseball, croquet, bicycling, and tennis became official activities of the club. Furthermore, Mrs. Ramsdell’s mother-in-law, Maude, designed a five-hole golf course on the property.

In 1899, the club was one of the first to join the Metropolitan Golf Association. Within the next decade and having associated itself with the United States Golf Association in 1915, the Powelton Club hired George Merritt as its resident golf professional.

In 1952, it was decided by the Powelton Board of Directors that club membership would be contained hereafter to only 475 members.

Wendy Dominick of the Powelton Club, while introduced to golf as a child, waited until her 30s to seriously play the game, and she currently fits in at least 100 rounds a year. She joined the WMGA in 1984, signed up for the Barbara Kirkland Memorial and finished 2nd Net, and that was the start of Wendy’s storied golf history. It is fitting that in 2017 Wendy won our Inaugural “B” Match Play Championship and her name is the first also engraved on the
“B” Player of the Year Trophy. Wendy is a self-proclaimed
“Rules Geek,” has been a Rules Official with the MGA since 2011, and in 2021 received its Jerry Mahoney Award as the R&C Committee Volunteer of the Year. Throughout the years, Wendy has been a Met Rep, Team Captain, and Series Captain, served on the WMGA Board as Westchester/CT Chair and then Team Match Chair, helped out as a Rules Official and hosted four Swing Series on the Rules of Golf.
Golf Genius can’t wait for Wendy to sign up for her next slate of WMGA tournaments!

The swimming pool was added to the property at the same time (1952), north of the clubhouse, which burned down in 1929. The current whitewashed brick clubhouse was designed by Francis Abreu and opened by the next summer.

The New Clubhouse 1929-1930
The Clubhouse had burned to the ground on November 25, 1929. The next day the Powelton Board of Directors met in a special session to discuss building a new Clubhouse.
On August 4, 1930 the new Powelton Clubhouse was ready for use.

On March 29th 1882 The Powelton Lawn Tennis Club of Newburgh, New York, was formally organized by Mr. Homer Ramsdell, Mrs. Howard Thornton, and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon.
Invitations to the Club's opening were issued to 500; by year's end, membership stood at 160, with a female majority.
In 1882, the United States Lawn Tennis Association was founded, having 33 tennis clubs as its charter members. The Powelton Lawn Tennis Club was one of them.
