Heart & Soil Flowers

Heart & Soil Flowers Floral design with a focus on locally farmed and foraged materials in upstate NY. Our style is free-flowing and fanciful, inspired by natural beauty.

Flowers planted in good soil, grown by farmers with a reverence and respect for the land, have such joy-bearing, life-giving qualities. These flowers feed the souls of the receivers, feed the souls of the farmers, and feed the soul of the land. They carry happiness, comfort, and celebration wherever they go. Showcasing flowers harvested in their natural season and in their natural surrounding; it

seems so simple and intuitive. Going with nature, instead of against it guarantees the freshest, loveliest, and longest lasting blooms. Heart & Soil carefully selects locally farmed and foraged materials to reflect the surroundings, season, venue, and client. We want the flowers to breath ease so that they can set the desired tone and create a backdrop where stories can be told and memories made.

Pinch me. We just returned from a summer holiday / R & D team trip to England and returning feeling inspired to invest more time in the garden, thankful to have spent time studying with the thoughtful and talented ladies of , and reinvigorated for the coming late summer/fall season flush of weddings.

We geeked out over all things garden, wined and dined like kings, and I got Amanda's new headshot for our soon coming new website, so coming out ahead.

Already planning our next garden tour of the countryside of England, so send me your recs.

Unfussy, yet intentional.

These words have ended up in most of our mood boards this year because it just resonates so deeply with how I want our work to be felt, no matter the color palette or mood, for the most part, really.

Something that's elegant, but not overly complicated or showy. Something that has movement and life, but not too undone or messy.

Here we have a lot of humble vegetable garden textures (blueberry, cilantro gone to seed, phacelia which is often used as a cover crop). The addition of the campanula bells and astrantia dress it up in a classy, subtly way that a fancy peony just couldn't pull off. The color is also subtle, but it's the chartreuse leaf in the front that really does it for me.

Ok fellow florists, vendors, or folks who are running around on their feet all day: what is your go-to shoe? I wear a heeled blundstone boot, but my feet are still achy by the end of the day. I have an inkling that those of you who have found a good solution might be eager to share? Help!

An incredible reason to design with local flowers is that, without much effort, the flowers we bring in reflect the surrounding landscape and feel like a magical extension of the space. We used both fennel and irises in our designs for Kathleen & Kevin's wedding , and serendipitously found them on full display in the garden there as well ✨

Pulled out all the stops to source the most beautiful local flowers for our weddings this past weekend and . I even got to help harvest these sweet peas myself! Indebted, always, to our growers. I am in continuous awe of how beautiful each and every stem is. The care behind all of this product really comes through and makes our designs shine ✨
