Sherman Library & Gardens’ Fifth Annual Newport Beach Summer Garden Party was a blooming success, raising over $77,000 to fund their Habitat Explorer Program
Corona del Mar, CA: Sherman Library & Gardens welcomed nearly 300 guests to their sold-out annual summer soiree for a cause. Each year, this much anticipated event takes place in Newport Beach’s cultural hub to raise funding for one of the signature programs that the nonprofit offers called Habitat Explorers. The program provides free bussing and field trips to Sherman Library & Gardens for elementary school students in public schools within Orange County. Education is the glue that binds Sherman Library & Gardens’ three pillars: history, horticulture, and the arts. Last school year, Sherman became a classroom for more than 1,600 second-, third-, and fourth-grade students who participated in the Habitat Explorers Field Trip program. The program delivers science-based student experiences designed to enhance STEM curricula. Sherman also awards transportation subsidies to improve access for schools from low income
areas of Orange County. The generous donations from this year’s Newport Beach Summer Garden Party will allow Sherman to support more of these educational experiences for our local youth as they strive to Grow the Gardens for future generations.
Highlights from the event included a special proclamation awarded to Sherman Library & Gardens by Newport Beach councilmember Lauren Kleiman and an exclusive membership giveaway. Guests enjoyed live music by David Aguiar & The Garden Party Players in the central garden, fashion on display courtesy of Missoni Boutique at South Coast Plaza, and a delicious light supper from 608 Dahlia. Back by popular demand was the garden party hat contest, with special guest judges presiding including Chris Gialanella, President and Publisher at Engine Vision Media, Jackie Rose, South Coast Plaza Personal Stylist, and Molly Downing, Publicist/Stylist. Prizes were awarded to winners in five categories including Best Garden Themed Hat, Best DIY Hat, Best Men's Hat, Best Children's Hat, Most Outrageous Hat. Special thanks were given to the event’s Presenting Sponsor, South Coast Plaza, for their impactful contributions and support.
“Raising funding for our Habitat Explorers Program allows us to support and expand this offering which is of no cost to the school or student. We’re ever grateful for the generous support of the community and our donors whose contributions allow us to enrich the lives of youth right here in our community.” -Scott LaFleur, Executive Director, Sherman Library & Gardens
