When I was a kid, I would often go into my grandparents basement where my Inky had a huge piece of wood over a pool table that he used as his art space. He was into all kinds of art, he had every kind of paint you can imagine, markers, pencils, glass, clay, pastels, gold leaf, wood... honestly an artists epic playground! This is where I found my love for art!
One thing in particular that I was always fascinated by was his stained glass. He didn't make a TON of pieces, but it was something he played around with sometimes. I don't even think he hung it up in the house, I feel like he made it and then would just put it on a shelf? 🤦🏼♀️
Fast forward 35 years, Nick and I have two smaller windows on either side of our fireplace, and they're up high. They were begging for stained glass pieces to be hung in them! Nick and I looked around for a while and even explored learning to make some ourselves (we still want to and will!) but had no luck.
Randomly a few months ago, I told my Mom to keep an eye out for any stained glass at thrift shops or yard sales... my Mom had a better idea and asked me if I'd like some of Inkys stained glass. Ummm, obviously!! So, I picked this star, because we love the night sky, and Inky did too as a navigator, and for the other window, I picked some flowers.
Now, one hangs in each window, and they're such cool art pieces for our home! I know Inky would be so happy his work is still being enjoyed! (We also have 3 of his paintings up, he'd be pumped on that too)..I love it!
As someone who paints all the time, I know for sure that a part of you goes into every piece of art you make. Be it worthy of the Louvre or a beginner's work, it's all art, and a part of you is in every detail. I always think paint parties are so special because you will look at your Masterpieces for the rest of your life, remembering who you were painting with and the fun you had... but another cool thing about your art is that one day when you're gone, a piece of you can be enjoyed by loved ones for years to come.
I just feel like art gives a piece of you infinite life, and I think that when you look at it that way, it makes art even more special. 🧜🏼♀️🎨
