This intimate storefront performance space opened in March 2007 and has become popular with a variety of local performing artists. It has been tagged, "Norfolk's Little Showcase Theater" since singers, musicians, playwrights, poets, spoken word artists, comedians, dancers, burlesque performers, actors, storytellers, magicians and theater companies have found The Venue to be a welcoming space to s

howcase and hone their talents and new works. Regular events at The Venue include:

1. MONDAY NIGHT OPEN MIC - Every Monday night between 7:00-11:00 PM - Our open mic is open to all genres and is a great space for artists to hone their performance skills and material. It is inviting for newbies and accomplished and artists both as our staff is there to provide feedback for the new artists, and, for the experienced trying out new pieces. If artists are interested, they can come back on Thursday and do more work with out performance coach at Performers Playground.

2. This skills enhancement program is for all performers using time tested techniques. Storytellers, comedians, poets, spoken word artists and even singers and musicians come in to hone their stage presence and delivery skills. Every Tuesday night from 9 pm to 12pm. Fee is $5

TLC PUPPET WORKSHOPS INC organization that is designed for teaching, learning, and creating the Arts in communities that otherwise could not experience the power of the Arts. Puppetry is the main vehicle for our education but we provide experiences all the Arts. And they are right here At the Venue on 35thStreet

Here's what happened at the end of the Black Women in Comedy Laff Fest! Thank you Joanna Briley and the whole BWIC Laffest crew for bestowing this honor to me. I was truly surprised!

I was given this BEAUTIFUL award for being a Brand Ambassador for the festival.

It reads:
"In recognition of your exceptional dedication, outstanding representation and unwavering commitment to our brand. Your passion and efforts have significantly contributed to our success and growth.
Thanks for being an extraordinary Ambassador." June 23, 2024

Doing things for the "culture" mean so much to me and so does comedy. So from creating my all-POC improv and sketch group to starting a whole diversity program at my local theater...shout out to Lemon Pepper & Sazón Comedy and Push Comedy Theater. Seeing that the less visible be represented in comedy on and off stages is what I'm committed to see happen. Naturally when such a beautiful festival that elevates Black Women on a national level is happening, that's something I'm gonna shout from the mountain tops. One thing I'm gonna do is talk and network about is my improv group and this festival. It was very satisfying to see people I know perform in it for the first time this year and also to have someone from industry take time to speak with the ladies about college, corporate and cruise line work! It is a pleasure and not labor to bring the good word about Black Women in Comedy...we deserve to be uplifted EVERYWHERE!

Thank you again to everyone involved and I'll keep on being a voice outchea for good!
