Spreading the word of my next chapter, Winterberry Farm has been sold, and I am on North Haven Island, where I built a yurt and a very cool Permaculture garden & simplifying my life, writing a book about my adventures farming as a woman and tapping into my creative spirit and doing wedding designs after 35 years of designing weddings I am excited to share my talents with these island brides. Proud to be a third generation Native American of the mashatucket Pequot reservation, proud that I am a woman and purchased a farm and raised my children there, proud to be a survivor of domestic violence and I was capable of making the best of a situation that was not so great, Proud that I’ve been able to follow my American dreams, if I can inspire others, then my work is complete. ♥️

It’s been a while since I’ve introduced myself and the types of service that I offer for North Haven Island floral so welcome.
My name is Mary Perry and I have been a floral designer for 35+ years. Wow I must be getting old L O L really though I love Designing flowers for weddings truth be told I’ve never gotten married! my journey has been raising three of the most amazing humans and for every floral design that I do for my wedding work I pour my entire soul into it at North Haven Island florals I do full service weddings, everything from pinning on the boutonniere to taking down the last chair decoration and moving them into the dining area. I offer à la cart where you can order a bouquet and a couple of table pieces or any imaginable pieces for your wedding and exactly the colors that you would like and I offer DIY that would be buckets of flowers that I grow or that I’m sourcing from other Maine floral growers, I look forward to meeting you and talking about the wedding of your dreams. I do weddings on North Haven Island, and all the surrounding islands, including Monhegan Island and all the small private islands in between
Including little deer isle, all within a quick boat ride for me using the
sea quester that is an aluminum landing craft that allows me beach access with all the floral designs on board.

Growing flowers and designing for weddings and events at Winterberry Farm for the past 25 years and now from the magical beautiful island of North Haven Island, I will be offering full service weddings and à la carte florals. not only on North Haven Island, but on the surrounding islands where we are able to deliver by boat and also Mid Coast Maine.

When I started winterberry Farm 25 years ago, I could not have imagined where it would be today. As we close our doors of Winterberry Farm, and start a new chapter of North Haven Island florals, I am finding myself thinking about my favorite accomplishments.
by far, the one I am most proud of is I listen to my customers, if they wanted me to carry a particular pickle recipe then I would do that, if they wanted me to do ice-skating and sleigh rides, then I did that, if they wanted me to have a particular pie recipe, then I did that, I always listened to my customers, and I would not be here without their support.
my second favorite accomplishment ,
I am proud of our 300 member vegetable CSA and feeding the community of Belgrade Lakes for the past 25 years. The shape of that Csa has changed over the years from a simple bag of vegetables right behind the farm store, to open bins of veggies, where they could choose their own, to a meal in a box and finally to harvest their own. It has been a complete treasure for me to grow food for my community and increasing my soils fertility and leaving those soils better than they were when I first arrived, all while growing vegetables and using horses and oxen and no tractors.
And my third favorite accomplishment are weddings and wedding flowers, growing flowers has been a creative GameChanger for me. I have always been a floral designer. I think I was 18 when I started that and then attended Simmons school of design in Boston, I have worked all over the country as a floral designer California, the Carolinas, Connecticut, Walt Disney World, New York City, my favorite is designing for weddings and growing my own flowers Here in Maine, it has been the highlight of my career, I’m so excited to start this new chapter out on North Haven Island doing flowers for Island weddings.

Here is a story from the past,
The year was roughly 2010. It was in February on a Sunday evening just before dark. The roads were slightly covered with a thin layer of snow and the Saddleback Ski traffic was flying past the farm with not much break between each vehicle. And then all hell broke loose on the farm. We were letting Nestor and Ginger up from there pasture leading them up to the barn for the night,
Ginger was behind Nestor and she somehow broke free of Kenya who was leading her up and she started running towards the barn and then Nestor got away from me and he chased her and they didn’t stop at the barn. They didn’t stop until they reached Christys market, straight down the middle of Route 27! How nobody got killed or in an accident I’ll never know.
I chased after them for as far as I could and a car picked me up and we stayed on their heels until they reached Christy’s market.
I gathered up the two horses with a police es**rt back to the farm, and I vowed that I would never put them in a pasture together again,
20 something years later in their retirement years they are headed out to North Haven Island in two weeks where they need to live together, so I’m getting brave and starting to turn them out together at the farm again. one of those stories that will sure make the pages of my culinary memoir.
