Who we are. What we do. Why we do it.
The Center for Humanities and Arts (CHARTS) is on the University of Arkansas - Pulaski Technical College (UA-PTC) Main Campus in North Little Rock. Opened in 2016, the 90,000 square-foot facility houses a 456 seat and 70 capacity standing room proscenium theater complete with Dolby Surround Sound, comprehensive lighting capabilities, orchestra pit and lift, full-size modifiable acoustic shells, movie screen and Barco IMAX projector, and a Kawai Shigeru 9-foot concert grand piano.
The central Arkansas area is breeding a vibrant arts culture that Arkansans and tourists alike can enjoy. As a center for learning as well as a venue for community engagement, CHARTS regularly features concerts and lectures in addition to playing host to community partners such as the THEA Foundation, Ballet Arkansas, ACANSA Arts Festival, and Opera in the Rock. Over the past few years The Center for Humanities and Arts has brought in world-renowned artists such as Mavis Staples, Delbert McClinton, John Hiatt and The Goners, Jimmie Vaughan, Pharaoh Sanders, The Indigo Girls, Bettye LaVette, and many more! CHARTS is also home to the 1,300 square-foot Windgate Gallery, which showcases traveling exhibitions from museums, national traveling exhibition services, and well-known artists.
As a more intimate performing arts venue, our desire is to present the greater central Arkansas area a diverse lineup of professional artists in a new and innovative way. We believe that contributing to the current arts culture in the Little Rock and North Little Rock Metro will only push it to new heights and give Arkansans better live performance experiences right here at home. As our state-of-the-art venue offers a heightened technical experience at all of our performances, our staff is charged with giving you, the patron, the best customer service experience desired, and the artists we bring in are ready to give you the most energetic performance possible!
In addition to our theater and gallery, CHARTS is home to the Division of Fine Arts and Humanities of UA-PTC. Courses are designed to provide students with the literacies and skills they will need to transfer to a four-year institution and to advance in their careers. The Division provides courses required for Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, and Associate of Applied Science degree programs, offering classes in Art, Performing Arts, Philosophy, Interdisciplinary Studies, Languages, English, and Speech Communication. In addition to providing students with more affordable means of achieving their academic goals, the Division also features a number of exciting electives students may take to develop new skills and to explore a variety of disciplines.
