Fantastic weekend for USEA ECP instructor Tom Davis and the Flatlands Eventing crew at the Huntington Farm Vermont July Horse Trials. Lots of learning but everyone got to enjoy the victory gallop! Mary and Odin were 4th in the NRB division. Kay and Remi won the OBN. Jane and Blue were 6th in the same division. Megan and Houston, owned by John Ryan were 2nd in the Open Starter division (behind our friend Maia and Banana)! Can't wait to be back there next month for the Area 1 Championships!

I can't say enough about these boots. Not only are they stunning AND durable - they are ridiculously inexpensive for custom made boots. And now they are ON SALE!! Kaitlyn and I wear ours daily (tho I have neglected to polish mine recently). Tom has a pair for competition as well. If you are at Huntington this weekend, I bet I could get Hunter to measure you. She could also come to Brookside for a day w samples etc if there was interest.

What a fantastic day of learning for the Flatlands crew at the Sharon White clinic at Scarlet Hill Farm. It was show jumping day and Tom, Leslie and Brenda jumped all the things under Sharon's watchful eye. Today Kay will show jump w her and Leslie and Brenda will do XC. Sadly, Jacob threw a shoe so Tom has to sit this one out. Cil and Jane also wanted to attend but ended up on the wait list. Lessons learned the hard way!

The Flatlands crew absolutely NAILED the dressage phase at the Valinor Farm June Horse trials. Heather (T) and Jane (BN) were 1st after dressage. Megan (St) was 2nd. Kay (BN) was 3rd and Brenda was 7th. However we all know eventing isn't just about dressage tho it does get you off to a great start.

Heather and Jacob jumped 2 clean rounds in their 2nd Training. Time faults on XC dropped them down to 4th. Py showed Jane that he is done filling in for her laid up event horse and wants to stick to straight dressage. ((He won at 2nd level the week before at the GMHA Dressage Days in VT.)) Kay jumped 2 clean rounds on her youngster finishing 2nd in their first recognized event. Brenda and Hot Rod jumped 2 clean rounds as well but added a bit of time to finish just out of the ribbons. Megan and Houston finished 2nd in Starter with a clean SJ round and a 20 on XC for a green moment. Next up we head to Huntington Farm Vermont July Horse Trials!

The score board doesn't always tell the whole story and that was certainly the case at GMHA June Horse Trials. Heather and Jacob had a successful move up to Training level starting with a very workman like test is a nasty cold rain. Her SJ round was well ridden. She picked up a couple rails but mostly due to Jacob thinking he was still going Novice. Her XC was excellent for her first time at that level - one stop but an amazing GRRR and a kick at the Trakenher which Jacob jumped beautifully after peaking and dropping a should in prep for a run out.

Jane was entered on Blue but a pesky injury (laceration) kept him home so she took her dressage horse Py who has never done a proper XC school but did win at Starter a few years ago at the one event he did before changing sports. He was 1st after dressage and jumped a lovey SJ round (he did play in the H/J ring before Jane purchased him). He was a bit boggled by XC but got all the way to the last fence before picking up his 4th refusal and an E. He had really found his rhythm before that but scared himself by overjumping the ditch then had a stop at the next fence which happened to be the last fence, Congrats to both Heather and Jane for getting it done when the going got tough!
