About a month ago we had the privilege to do some pyrotechnics for the Elkin Municipal Airport annual fly-in. This required advanced planning, prior testing of effects, and careful coordination with all involved parties. Ultimately we utilized small charges and precise timing to create a straffing run effect and fuel mines to give a nice looking explosion as a T-28 overflew. Now we have a good starting point for an even better display next year! I'd like to thank Josh Gregory all of his help making this happen while we've been busy with our other ongoing projects

A couple weeks ago I shot for a future sewer outfall tying into a new pump station. This was my most technically challenging project yet, which involved blasting in close proximity to an existing sewer outfall, an existing pump station, as well as two sewer force mains. There were a couple sections where we were less than 10 feet from the pump station and the exisitng buried lines as well as one section where we had to blast underneath an existing force main. We also had to coordinate with several city and utility agencies for each shot, as well as close a busy road.

For the conditions and challenges, I believe this job went well. We will likely be back in the future to cross under another pipeline once excavation begins.

This has been a roller coaster of a year trying to go full-time into the drilling and blasting business, and we have been blessed to have the opportunity to add a brand new drill to our lineup. Greg Childress and Nathan Mullis have went above and beyond learning the ropes and helping me run this business. I pray that if the Lord allows, that we can keep this new machine busy and continue to make a living doing what we enjoy!

Side note: its pretty neat having great grandpa of a Furukawa next to the latest of its same class, a lot has changed, and a lot bigger!

Today's shot was for installation of storm drain in a new housing development. Located within 30 feet of a major cross-country fiber optic transmission line on one end, a newly installed sanitary sewer line on the other, and new houses within a couple hundred feet meant needing to control vibration within acceptable limits and preventing flyrock. As well as coordinating with the relevant parties involved, mitigating concerns, and verifying a sound blasting plan.

Overall, I believe this turned out pretty good.

If you have a project where rock is in your way, either for mass excavation or trench, we'd love to help!

Between additional proposed tariffs on Chinese goods (fireworks), the nation's 250th birthday in 2026, and limited availability, next year is going to present quite a few challenges for display companies.

If you are considering sponsoring a firework display in 2026, or are looking for a new vendor to perform at an existing event, we would be happy to discuss your needs, and give a quote that maximizes your budget. The sooner you can lock in a price, the less you will pay next year.

Feel free to reach out via messenger, or contact Josh at (336)-909-9362.

Major outdoor shows cost can cost thousands of dollars per minute on average, according to an industry estimate.
