Yes! Honesty and ethics are far more important than a victory gained without merit or integrity. If we’re going to talk the talk, we also need to walk the walk.

"Remember this Kenyan runner Abel Mutai who was just a few feet from the finish line, but became confused with the signage and stopped, thinking he had completed the race. A Spanish runner, Ivan Fernandez, was right behind him and, realizing what was happening, started shouting at the Kenyan to continue running. Mutai didn't know Spanish and didn't understand. Realizing what was taking place, Fernandez pushed Mutai to victory.
A journalist asked Ivan, "Why did you do that?" Ivan replied, "My dream is that someday we can have a kind of community life where we push and help each other to win."
The journalist insisted, "But why did you let the Kenyan win?" Ivan replied, "I didn't let him win, he was going to win. The race was his." The journalist insisted again, "But you could have won!" Ivan looked at him and replied, "But what would be the merit of my victory? What would be the honor in that medal? What would my mother think of that?"
Values are passed on from generation to generation. What values are we teaching our children? Let us not teach our kids the wrong ways and means to win. Instead, let us pass on the beauty and humanity of a helping hand. Because honesty and ethics are winning!"

Is your non-profit organization struggling to stay afloat financially? 💰 Is board member turnover becoming a common occurrence? 😵‍💫 Is morale among your volunteers and staff low or strained? 😞 Have you lost sight of your mission? 👻 Do your stakeholders truly have a stake in the organization or is your board (or executive committee) taking center stage? 🎭 Perhaps looking inward and investigating the organization’s boardroom practices would help improve the situation. The following article is extremely insightful in its entirety, but points 4 and 5 are especially eye opening.
More to come . . . !!!

Micromanaging, rubber stamp, and Balkanized nonprofit boards of directors are more common than not, and turning them into high-functioning governing bodies requires being on the alert for six warning signs.

instead of saying, "i know what it feels like", let's say "i cannot imagine your heartbreak".

instead of saying, "you're strong, you'll get through this, let's say " you'll hurt, and I'll be here.

instead of saying, "you look like you're doing well, let's say, "how are you holding up today?"

instead of saying, "healing takes time", let's say "healing has no timeline".

instead of saying, "everything happens for a reason, let's say "this must feel so terribly senseless right now".

and when there are no words to say at all, you don't need to try and find some. love speaks in silences too.

Congratulations, Lady Cards!

Trailing by two runs heading into the bottom of the fourth, the Cardinals erupted for seven runs and never looked back on their way to defeating Northside-Pinetown by a 9-3 margin in the rubber game of the best-of-three Class 1-A State Championships on Saturday at the Duke Softball Complex.

❗FACT: Home health care nurses make far less than their colleagues who work in institutional settings like hospitals and nursing homes.

💰This wage disparity is due to lack of government funding for home care programs.

🩺Getting paid to do the same, if not more intensive job, but for significantly less is UNFAIR and MUST CHANGE!

🚨Get involved in advocacy today to help stand up for home health care nurses!

When you’ve exhausted all efforts in trying to ensure that which is honest, and right, and fair, just walk away and let the truth you spoke simmer in their thoughts for a while. The throngs of unaware and unassuming followers they gathered to throw stones at you will soon understand and appreciate your efforts. They, too, may choose to walk away.
When there is no one left to point the finger at, they will have no choice but to reconcile within themselves their own self-serving motivations and deceit. Don’t expect an apology; regrettably, their pride will not allow it. You’ll know if and when the time is right to return, and if you do walk back, do so with grace and humility. Remember - the fight wasn’t about you to begin with; it’s not about you now. Consider it a win for the greater good and be content in just knowing you made a difference.

UP FOR DISCUSSION:
How concerned are you that Wilkes Medical Center has not achieved the minimum standards needed to obtain even the lowest level of Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation? https://www.acep.org/geda
Should the Town of North Wilkesboro, Town of Wilkesboro and Wilkes County commissioners do more to encourage hospital management to make the necessary upgrades to earn this accreditation? Tell us what you think! In addition to our followers, we'd love to hear from county and town officials, as well!
