We have been missing yous. Our hearts are as tender as ever. It's been so moving to run into folks out in the world who have told us that they can't wait for SR to be back open again 😭 The affirmations you have given us are beyond humbling. We feel invigorated to keep building a loving, safe place to be together - particularly when we are continuously grieving out here. Thank you for loving us -- we love you!

We need to let y'all know that we are postponing our reopening one more week. There are lots of reasons why we need more time, but one of them includes Rebecca presenting multiple workshops at an out-of-state flower farmer conference (we're trying something new here, which is maybe not doing everything all of the time?)

We promise you that we'll be back open on the 23rd...just a few days after you-know-what. We look forward to digging into community building, pursuing rad work with y'all, and continuing to offer respite as best we can. We can't wait to see you on 1/23 🌹

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out on NYE - we know you showed up because of what we're about. And we are in awe / humbled by the community that we are building with you all ❀️‍πŸ”₯

We collected $938 and passed it all onto (total donation was $968.69 to cover their processing fees). The money will help bring relief to people in Lebanon, Palestine and Jordan. We feel lifted-up by all your "hell yeahs", declarations for a Free Palestine, extra generous donations and the fist bumps we got at the door after explaining where the $ money was headed -- it's the energy we all need heading into 2025.

We want to give a super special shout-out to who organized the button making crew at the 11th hour when we reached out for help with those tokens of appreciation for you all. THANK YOU, SOPHIA!!!πŸ™

Next Tuesday, we are hosting our first ever NYE gathering. 7pm 2024 - 1am 2025.

We're moving the furniture around and opening the dance floor for a hot setlist, maybe some video magic, (maybe a ball drop?).... we're asking y'all to bring the dance moves as we make our way into 2025 embodying a spirit of collective healing, imagination and resistance.

We will be asking for a suggested minimum donation of $10 at the door - all donations will be directed to which continues to provide essential medical aid and food as they work to ensure/restore life in Lebanon and Palestine.

We hope that you'll join us in a celebration of chosen family, community building and collective liberation. Another world is possible🌹

Our schedule is about to get whacky over the next couple of weeks, so PLEASE READ CAREFULLY! There are only 7 days left in 2024 that we're open (if you're into Gregorian timelines), so if you haven't checked out the seasonal evergreen / fireplace vibes in SR yet (yes, we have a fireplace), the time is nigh!

We're beginning the week looking for a little palette cleansing / an assertion of our ethics / who we are after an incredibly disturbing incident took place at the lounge on Saturday.

First and foremost, 𝑺𝑼𝑩 𝑹𝑢𝑺𝑨 𝑰𝑺 𝑨 𝑸𝑼𝑬𝑬𝑹 𝑩𝑨𝑹. It was physically built and carefully curated by and for people who believe in collective liberation. It is born out of the minds and hearts of two q***r creatives who know, unequivocally, that their own liberation is bound up in the liberation ofΒ all people. Anyone who shares in this knowing is welcome to join us in the safe space we have created.

ATTEMPTS TO DEMONIZE OTHER HUMAN BEINGSΒ WILL NEVER BE TOLERATED IN OUR ESTABLISHMENT. Furthermore, the concept of demonizing entire groups of people will never serve the urgent need to eradicate colonialism and its tools of oppression, erasure, and annihilation. As q***r people, our very existence is in direct conflict and contradiction to these systems of oppression.

Part of the magic of q***rness lies in the concept of world-making – which can look like creating safe, joy-filled, affirming spaces that are not necessarily accessible to us in our daily lives. For this reason, we dreamt up Sub Rosa to help offer a respite, to take care of one another, and to center the lives and stories of our community members who are most oppressed. We know that we have built an incredibly beautiful space which may trick some into thinking that it couldn'tΒ possiblyΒ be a q***r bar, but we assure you that it is.Β 

Unfortunately, we have received some hate mail since the disturbing incident on Saturday, asserting that if we are advertising our views (FREE PALESTINE) we should β€œexpect to engage with our customers." To be clear and specific: Sub Rosa is not a space where Palestinian liberation will EVER be up for debate. If you seek to engage in conversations like this, and/or do not believe in a Free Palestine, we kindly ask that you please find somewhere else to go. To be clear, we will not participate in β€œconversations” that justify apartheid and genocide, as these views are in direct contradiction to the safety of the space we have worked so hard to create. We are back with you this evening after unexpectedly being closed all of last week. Thank you to our community for your patience and for checking in on us. As a family-run business with just the two of us at the helm, big life events have the capacity to derail us a bit.

We are deeply overwhelmed by the love and nourishment we have received (we're looking at you, and fam 😭), and we feel even more determined than ever to continue this community-building/world-making project with you all -- we're all we've got and we feel grateful to be with you.

It's finally here: .argue's show π‘­π’Šπ’“π’† 𝒇𝒐𝒓 π‘­π’Šπ’“π’† - an unabashed commentary on climate change and the epidemic of book banning - opens to the public tonight at 7pm.*

We couldn't be more thrilled to present this work to our community and to welcome our brilliant friend, Doug, to Northampton. Bringing π‘­π’Šπ’“π’† 𝒇𝒐𝒓 π‘­π’Šπ’“π’† to Sub Rosa has been in the works for over a year - ever since we were invited by our friends and to share a meal with Doug. At the time, we were still in the midst of building-out Sub Rosa and Doug was painting a new body of work that sounded so poignant, exacting and relevant to our shared realities...but he revealed that his galleries were uninterested in showing these new pieces. As q***r farmers who are deeply affected by climate change / book banning / the latest incarnation of culture wars, the walls at Sub Rosa suddenly seemed like they were being built for this show.

If you don't have a ticket for the artists' talk this evening, we will be opening to the public at 7pm tonight, when you can meet Doug and get a signed copy of his (banned) book 𝑳𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑭𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 🌹

Gather at Sub Rosa on Saturday, October 26th to celebrate the opening of New York City-based artist .argue's new body of work, Fire for Fire - an unabashed commentary on climate change and the epidemic of book banning.

Doug will be joined by his good friend and co-conspirator, , for an intimate conversation. There are only about 20 tickets available to this artists' talk (link in bio)...

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Artists' talk begins at 6 p.m. Doors open to the public at 7 p.m. Ticket holders will receive a copy of Doug Argue's book 𝑳𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑭𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆, which was banned by the Weisman Museum the night Argue's career survey exhibition (also called Letters to the Future) opened at the museum. To our beloved botanical dreamers:

We have made the difficult decision to close Sub Rosa this week. We wish that we could be in all the places at once, but the reality is, life has thrown some curve balls our way - including some illness amongst our farm staff. Since it's just the two of us running the lounge, we are making this decision to keep our community safe and healthy. We know you all understand β™₯️

We will be back with our special guest friend/server extraordinaire next week.
