We are thankful for the beautiful weather this week and the First Graders that were able to explore nature with us!

Tuesday Night we engaged with Seven Hills ES at thier family science. Night!
Wednesday we got outside with Lance Thompson.
And today we tried to find armadillos and other wildlife with Berkshire.

Students and teachers made connections to the classroom and to thier homes throughout the sites, and we loved hearing them share! Especially all the questions!

Thank you to parents for supporting our teachers this week to make outdoor learning even better!

5th grade kept us busy this week!
Started off with Cox, then Lance, Seven Hills and ended the week with Haslet!

Each day our target was weathering, erosion and deposition....each day students made even further connections to the learning than planned! Each campus persevered through different weather conditions daily too! Who knew so much learning could take place with a field experience? 😁

Thank you to the teachers and chaperones for helping us facilitate learning on our beautiful campus! Thank you students for sharing your learning with us!

Yesterday the OLC hosted three different experiences!
We had our 5th grade experiences roll out with Nance as they gained schema for weathering, erosion and deposition.
Next, we had our monthly Take-A-Hike Tuesdays for NISD employees and families.
And third, we hosted Astronomy students at Northwest HS for a star and moon gazing night. Guests from the FW Astronomical Society brought telescopes and tons of knowledge and passion to help our older students build thier knowledge.
A full day of learning all around and we know how to continously improve our service to our diverse group of learners!! Thank you to all the volunteers and teachers who make these moments happen!

The OLC had a full day of teaching and learning!
We started with chaperones from Clara Love, explored with 3rd graders during the gorgeous school day and ended our evening with First grade teacher outdoor learning workshop.

We enjoyed the sudent, teacher and parent conversations and connections being made today! Always a joy to hear student's share thier learning and accomplishments with their teachers....and the animals they happened to observe.

Thank you for sharing your day with us!!

What a gorgeous Fall Day with Schluter 3rd! One of the learning sites students explore is "My Farm Web" to help them make connections to how food, fabric, flowers and forestry are all part of agriculture right in our communities. They will get to revisit those connections again at Carl Day and at the 3rd Grade Ag Barn Day!

Bonus? Some students observed the leucistic turkey!

"I see turtle heads in the pond!" 🐢
"I see poison ivy! Watch out!" 😮
"I hear the frogs but don't see them!" 🐸
"Look out for the snake we saw!" 🐍
"Can I draw this?" 📓
And sooooo many more questions and observations from excited 3rd graders!

These Lance Lions were making their way around the pond by making observations on a grid map. While they were mapping, others students were learning about agriculture and our community or creating a tool to launch wildflower seed balls. Lots of learning and helping others, from our students and from our chaperones.

Thank you for sharing such a gorgeous day of outdoor learning with us!

Seven Hills 3rd grade were incredible learners and thinkers today!

We heard great conversations and observed lots of partner and team work. Students choose positive behaviors and were mindful of our environment. And because one group was conscious of thier volume level, they were able to observe the mysterious white turkey!

We hope these Wolves were able to build connections today and apply thier new learning back at school. Thank you for sharing your day with us!! !

This weekend we were learning at the Texas Association for Environmental Education annual conference! We networked with other outdoor learning and environmental education leaders to share and grow in our content knowledge and practices.

Our Allyson presented two workshops on birding and outfitting your outdoor learning classroom needs. 🤩 We even gained some tips and tricks from others that we look forward to trying. This was her first time to ever present at a state conference and we are thrilled she had this experience to grow!

Good job, Allyson (and our TAEE friends!)

We kicked off our Fall learning experiences today with Sendera Ranch 3rd grade! What an amazing group of teachers and students and chaperones for working with us through our first ever 3rd grader visit! Pilot lessons are not always smooth, but they handled it with grit and curiosity. Building connections to their current read a loud novel, The Wild Robot, was definitely worth all the walking.
Thank you for helping us learn how to serve you better!

These 3rd Grade teachers were quite the learners this evening!
This Fall we are offering experiences for 3rd grade and these campuses volunteered to pilot it! This group represented their grade level teams and campuses to learn more about what an "OLC Experience" looks like for their students.

We know she will do a fantastic job sharing how to get students excited about birding, and how to outfit your learning for the outdoors.

Thank you to all the NISD employees and families that came to our first Fall Take-A-Hike Tuesday! Every visitor observed an armadillo! A great sunset matched with a pretty moonrise too.

We had a great art mini workshop with the NISD Fine Arts department! Fine Arts Director Rebecca O'Donovan and her team taught us how to make them. 🖼

We created "sun prints" that is paper coated in a light-sensitive chemical that reacts to UV rays from sunlight. Arrange some nature loose parts to reveal the negative. Such a scientific way to for art expression!

The OLC is host site for art teacher PD in October. We love having art do experential learning and with nature emphasis on our campus. Bonus when it is evident how science impacts artistic work and ideas. Thanks for including us!!!

Programs supporting programs!
We needed some lanyards and we asked our friends in CTE if they would like to donate some and they provided! Great CTE conversation starter for the many community members, teachers and students who will be learning with us.

Did you know? We host STEM Academy at Northwest ISD days, FFA retreats and CDE competitions, Education and Training interns, Robotics competition and more, ro support our CTE programs?
