Chelsea Players announces auditions for GLADYS IN WONDERLAND, a comedic look at a serious topic. Auditions will be held on Monday, July 29 and Wednesday, July 31 at 7 pm at Casa UCC, formerly United Congregational Church, 87 Broadway in Norwich, on the lower level. The auditions are open to all, the auditions will be readings from the script.

Eight actors are needed, with some doubling. Two leading roles: Gladys, a feisty 87 year old (to be done by an actress who can play that age) and Death in a White Suit, male any age. Also a woman 20s or 30s, one woman 40-60, one male 60+, one male 30-50, and two women 50+.

Show dates are October 11,12,18, 19.

The July Chelsea Players membership meeting will be held Monday, July 15 at 6 PM in Casa UCC, the former United Congregational Church, lower level, 87 Broadway. The primary focus will be plans for the fall. All are welcome.

Our 41 years of existence makes us the longest running Community Theater group in Southeastern Connecticut! Perhaps it will be brought up at the meeting how we should celebrate this fact!

Chelsea Players is in rehearsal for our spring show,
“An Evening of Irish Plays,” to be presented at Casa UCC (formerly United Congregational Church), 87 Broadway, Norwich.

“The Workhouse Ward” and “Rising of the Moon,” both by Lady Gregory, and “The Tinker’s Wedding,” by John Millington Synge, run the gamut of emotion from comedy to pathos.

Performances will be May 24, 25, and 31, at 7 pm. A matinee will be held at 2 pm SATURDAY [yes, Saturday] June 1, with an additional treat of live Irish music.

7 pm in the United Congregational Church hall, 87 Broadway Norwich. Lower Level, enter from Willow St. parking lot.
Practices will be Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7-9 starting March 18
Show dates May 17, 18, 24, 25. May 25 is a 2 p.m. matinee.

"Spreading the News" - This comedy exposes the lethality of gossip. 7 men 18-70; 3 women 25-60

"The Rising of the Moon" - This drama reflects the deep resentments of Britain's rule in Ireland. 4 men 30-70

"The Workhouse Ward" - In this comedy two men have made quarreling their life's mission. 2 men 50-70, 1 woman 45-70
Actors may be cast in more than one play.

Chelsea Players' December meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 20 at 7 pm in the Norwich Arts Center Gallery. Voting will be held at that time. It's not too late to put your name in nomination for office of board of directors, or you may place your hat in the ring at the meeting..

We will also discuss plans for 2024 at the meeting.

Divorce Southern Style opens this Friday night, June 9, with more performances on Saturday June 10 and the following weekend Friday June 16, all at 7 pm. There's a matinee on Saturday June 17 at 2 pm.

Rehearsals are well underway for Divorce Southern Style (formerly called Winter Chicken) by Jennifer Jarrett. The rollicking show features veteran Chelsea Players, along with some dynamic actors new to the group. Veronica Strickland plays Eleanor Ba**er, scheming to get her ex-husband to return and re-marry her, now that he’s incredibly wealthy. Her lure is a hint to Walter (Richard Weingart) that their daughter, Elizabeth, and fiancee, Vince, might need to have a shotgun wedding. Shealani LeBeau and Alexander Fitzpatrick, who play the engaged couple, are engaged in real life!
The show will be at Casa UCC (formerly United Congregational Church), 87 Broadway, Norwich, June 9, 10, and 16 at 7 pm and June 17 at 2 pm. Tickets are $12 in advance and for seniors and $14 at the door. For ticket reservations and information contact director Tim Moore at [email protected].

Get ready for Chelsea Players’ hilarious spring show “Divorce Southern Style,” formerly known as “Winter Chicken,” by Jennifer Jarrett. In this Southern comedy, Eleanor Ba**er has been divorced for fifteen years and is low on cash. She concocts a plan to lure her husband, who post-divorce is a very wealthy man, back home. Their daughter is engaged and has been so on and off for five years, but Eleanor hints that the wedding might have to be imminent because a blessed event could now be in the picture. When Eleanor’s husband arrives with his current girlfriend, chaos ensues!

The show will be held at our old home base, Casa UCC (formerly United Congregational Church) 87 Broadway, Norwich. Show dates and times: June 9, 10, and 16 at 7 pm and June 17 at 2 pm. More details to follow soon.

Chelsea Players is sad to announce the passing of beloved CP alumnus Chris Roche. Chris was known throughout the region for his kindness, generosity, and wicked sense of humor.
Chris had memorable roles in such plays as “Of Mice and Men,” “The Oldest Living Graduate,” and “LuAnn Hampton Laverty Oberlander.” Chris’s portrayal of a not-too-bright cowboy in “Wilde West” was hilarious. The image of him in that bright red Union suit will stick in our minds forever.
We will miss our friend.
