AIFD, in collaboration with the AIFD Foundation, announces an exciting year-long floral design competition to celebrate AIFD’s 60th anniversary in 2025!

AIFD will kick off the “Designs of the Decades Competition” on August 1 with the first of our 6 design competitions.
Each competition will celebrate a decade of AIFD and the art of floral design. This competition is open to all professional floral designers and floral enthusiasts! Each of the six competitions will have a winner!

Each winner, of the six competitions, will receive a General Registration to the 2025 AIFD Symposium in Palm Springs California where they will compete for the “Designs of the Decades Cup” as well as many fabulous prizes!

I call my submission for the 1960s, “Rooted in Righteousness: A Resolute Spirit”.

This art piece is a representation of the strength, resilience, and brilliance of African American women. The colorful flowers emerging from the vase symbolize the vibrant, creative, and brilliant minds of Black women, flourishing with ideas and beauty. The “Afro” of black plumosa envelops and shelters these blooms, embodying both the strength and protection of their cultural identity. Despite enduring constant disrespect and harsh treatment during this time, African American women remained resolute, their beauty and resilience shining through, unshaken by adversity. This piece celebrates their unwavering determination and powerful spirit.
