Wednesday Wisdom: Diversity Matters - LGBTQ+ Panel Discussion
Wednesday, August 10, 2022 3:00-4:00pm
First Floor dining room - 178 Forest Ave., Oak Park

The Nineteenth Century Charitable Association created a program series called Wednesday Wisdom during the pandemic; what started out as members sharing their passions via Zoom has morphed into a periodic program presented in our building. Recent programs have included panel discussions on Rightsizing and Being Dementia Friendly.

Join us on August 10 as our panelists provide the audience better insight into the LGBTQ+ community in the Chicagoland area including pronoun definitions, triumphs, and challenges. This is also a great opportunity to learn how to Ally and Advocate during the ever changing cultural and political landscape. This program is Open to the Community and Free of charge.

Panelists:
Kendall Alexander: Kendall is a local attorney and long-time member of OPALGA+. She has served on the organization’s board and has participated in and led a number of group activities.
Ana Shack: Ana is an OPRF graduate currently in her 4th year at Illinois Institute of Technology. she has been involved with LGBTQ+ activism since high school, concentrating on education about and around the community.
Phil Kroker: Phil is a longtime Oak Park resident who has been involved with PFLAG (Parents, Families, and Friends of Le***ans and G**s) for more than two decades.

On January 31, Rick from Prairie State Winery presented 'The Science of Winemaking' at one of our Monday Enrichment Programs. Our members enjoyed the presentation so much that we organized a trip to Genoa so they could see the winery in person. So it's no surprise to us that Prairie State Winery has been named the Best Winery in Illinois! Congratulations to Rick and the whole Prairie State team! https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/the-best-winery-in-illinois-is-about-a-90-minute-drive-outside-chicago-according-to-yelp-list/2896661/?amp=1

Searching for the best wine in Illinois? You only have to travel about an hour and a half outside Chicago, according to a list from Yelp.

Our Story

The Nineteenth Century Club was established in 1891 by a group of visionary women who believed that education, charitable activities, and civic involvement were vital elements in a thriving community. The spirit of the founders continues today in the work of the Nineteenth Century Charitable Association through benevolence grants, scholarships, and public programming in five areas: music, art, literature, science, and social sciences.

Vision: To be a dynamic cultural center for community learning

Mission: Strengthening our community through learning, giving, and sharing our landmark building

The Nineteenth Century Charitable Association (NCCA) is the sole owner of the building at 178 Forest Avenue in Oak Park, known under the historic name of The Nineteenth Century Club. The primary purpose for the building is to support and enable our charitable and educational endeavors. The charitable and cultural activities are supported by our members (over 300), volunteers, donors, and by the events held in this facility. Programs are open to the public and publicly advertised, however, we are not supported through public tax dollars. The NCCA is an Illinois not-for-profit with a federal tax code as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
