Happy Black History Month!! To honor African people and ancestors, we will shares several foods that Africans had a hand in creating. With antiBlack racism and systemic oppression a global issue, Black History is often lost or grabbed by imperialists from other cultures. This segment honors the 10.9 million enslaved Africans who built the foundations of the new countries they were ordered to create.
Enslaved Africans were brought to the "New World" or the Americas with plants, animals and food staples in various African cultures. One of those foods is the beloved tamarind. The sweet brown fruit comes from legume family and grows best in lands that are dry and hot.
You can find tamarind to enjoy at many West African, South Asian, and Latinx dishes. Comment below your favorite way to eat tamarind!
