Hocicona (oh-see-ko-na)
noun, adjective: big mouth, loud-mouth (who talks too much or says things which should not be said); refers to the big snout of an animal; a term used to negatively label womxn who dare to speak up for themselves
.
Producing Lead Artist Sarita Ocón aims to reclaim this term and unapologetically create space for our collective of artists to live hella loud and proud, build creative tools, plant seeds of creative visions, and begin devising new works that reflect their experiences and communities. .
Las Hociconas Lab is supported by the California Arts Council's Local Impact Grant, the Investing in Artists Grant from the Center for Cultural Innovation, and the Beloved Community Fund from the Akonadi Foundation. Our fiscal sponsors are Galeria de la Raza and Latino Arts Network of California.
