The winter light on some winter blooms. Local king protea from amaranth galore from all kinds of foliage and gorgeous garden roses from
Tulips and filler from and some local harvested heaven pods from (and fyi rain tree is invasive on the mid east coast and south east US so don’t use it there!)

Just a wanna-be Chola and her flowers.
I used to watch these young Xicana girls walk by my house as a kid and I wanted my hair to do the same thing theirs did, big curled wings around their faces, dark red lips, big cat eye eyeliner. I remember getting upset at the hair cutters because they didn’t know what it was that I wanted or how to make it happen. Now I do.

This long baby was probably 4 feet wide! And very low, so I used from in the rectangle container and Voila! Something to note about the agrawool, when I put it in sideways it is super easy to get even wimpy stems to slide in. I didn’t use any chicken wire or tape and it keeps things pretty firmly placed for transport.

There are many answers on how to be sustainable but I always come back to the idea of LESS. Less travel, less trash, less plastic, less chemicals, less one time use.

Over the next few weeks we’ll share concrete examples of how this is reflected in G&G work but know this: you can still create beauty and make a living with LESS. Weddings are beautiful and festive with LESS. Gifts are heartfelt and lovely with LESS. Bouquets look beautiful wrapped in LESS. In fact. I would say we have to get comfortable with LESS in order to survive and for our children and future generations to survive in this world. LESS=LIFE

Less is not boring. Less is not tiny. Look at this feed. We’re fans of color, lots of flowers and lots of foliage. We’re not minimalist. But our business practices are, as much as possible. They are deliberate. They are simple. They are careful and worthwhile, sometimes more expensive sometimes less. They are nurturing of local community and they are always decisions that we feel comfortable and pleased to be repeating.

In case you didn’t know, Gorgeous and Green was founded on being sustainable. Hence the “green” in the name. It’s been an event company, a boutique, a delivery service and now a design studio (we still do gift deliveries).
When I started back in 2008, there was little information about being eco friendly in floral design, in weddings, in business or let alone how to open a sustainable and local store. Things have changed but still, not enough I’m afraid.
