Ethan Carter was making mix-tapes back in the early-80’s with a dual cassette deck recorder. Imagine how excited he was on his 13th birthday when he got one of the first CD players in the neighborhood!! There was no end to his obsession. Every week he would go to Sam Goody to spend his allowance. By the time he graduated high school he had over 1,000 discs in his collection. It was in college wher
e Ethan discovered vinyl and the art of the disc jockey. Looking for extracurricular activities Ethan joined the college radio station and had a weekly, music show. Shortly after Ethan needed to help out around campus with college parties using the station’s mobile equipment. From that point on Ethan was infected with the DJ bug. Every week Ethan found himself at a nightclub in Boston or Providence. He would go to socialize with classmates but he was constantly aware of the music. Ethan loved the soulful rhythms of classic 90’s house music and was always scoping out the music that pulled people to the dance floors. By the time Ethan graduated college he had several internships in the music industry and worked for various record labels in New York City. He would moonlight as a DJ one or two nights a week. Finally Ethan gave up his day job and committed himself to 4-weekly residencies at some of Manhattan’s most outrageous, weekly parties. Ethan’s styles have vacillated over the years from house, hip-hop, funk, and rock n’ roll. For him it’s not important to label or be pigeon-holed. He loves various styles and likes to create his sets based on themed parties but his favorite thing to do is to throw a random track in to catch ya off guard!
