History of Veterans Day.

Veterans Day, which was once known as Armistice Day, was originally set as a U.S. legal holiday to honor the end of World War I. In 1938, Armistice Day was established to remember the armistice – or agreement – that had been signed back on November 11, 1918, marking the end of WWI.

To honor those who have died in the country's service and thank those who have served.

It was proclaimed in 1919 by President Woodrow Wilson and became a legal federal holiday in 1938.
