Listen Friends… Slavery in the cacao industry has been a long time problem.
Cacao History: Back when Cortes discovered cacao among the Aztecs, the cacao was harvested by slaves. This is still a problem in much of the world today.
Many companies, including but certainly not limited to Nestle, Hershey’s, and Mars…do not source their cacao in an ethical manner. These companies know this. But they continue to make little to no improvements. They make promises that sound hopeful and pay attorneys to help them make statements to sound like they care… M&Ms has even gone so far as to completely revamp their advertising of their M&M characters… As a distraction? From the big problems? (See link to @russellbrand talking about this issue in a recent YouTube in my stories today)

choose your chocolate wisely… Even many of the fair trade companies who claim to source their cacao ethically… Aren’t doing much to oversee whether it is fair.
The best answer? Here’s what I think but I’d love to hear your thoughts too…

I got to create a live #artinstallation @ogdencontemporaryarts at the last minute. Go check out the entire exhibit curated by @kelly__carper called Land Body. All female artists creating art, entwining land and body and our impact on both.
My piece is a desert scape with female bodies. It’s my take on our Mother Earth and how until we start treating females with respect we won’t treat our Mother Earth with respect. (Thank you for those conversations @jadakaty78 ) The bodies (created by @delicatelypressed ) represent the divine female form and how we treat our indigenous females and females seeking refuge and shelter.
