⭐️⭐️⭐️Folks, we tried to honor #militaryveteran Ray Hobbs but had a power issue that night. He has an amazing story that we had want to share with you. Raymond Malan Hobbs was born March 13, 1924, in Ogden, Utah. Since then, he has been an Ogden resident except during his service in World War II, in the Army Air Corps. Ray met his sweetheart Lois Crosbie December 8, 1941. They married October 19, 1944, in Roswell, NM while in the service. He had joined the Army Air Corps in October 30, 1942 and after almost 2 years of training he joined the war effort as a B-17 pilot. On August 4, 1944, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. Ray was stationed at an airfield in Horham, England where he was assigned to the 95th Bomber group. He feels blessed to have never dropped a bomb. Instead, his group was directed to drop food stuffs, flour and canned goods to the starving Dutch. Ray flew 6 of these missions between May 1, 1945, and May 7, 1945. During the final days of World War II, the Allied Air-Forces (British, United States, Canada, New Zealand, Poland and Australia) participated in Operation Manna/Chowhound. It was a top secret humanitarian operation. Millions of Dutch people were starving to death, and 18,000 had already died. As retribution to Holland’s resistance movement, the Nazi Regime had denied them fuel and food during the harsh winter of 1944/45. The allies dropped more than 25,000 tons of food from April 29th through May 7th. A moment of kindness and light during a time of world darkness. After Ray returned from the war, he and Lois built the home he still lives in today. He worked for The Standard Examiner during the day for 33 years, while also working nights for The Tribune and raising their six children. Ray lost his sweetheart 12 years ago. They have 33 Grandchildren, 96 Great-Grandchildren and 14 Great-Great-Grandchildren with 2 more to arrive before 2024 is over. Ray loves his Malan heritage, our blessed country, his family
