This month’s Red Dirt Writes takes place on Tuesday, January 21, at 7:00 p.m. at Literati Press in the Paseo. Faith Phillips will lead the workshop on the power of personal narrative. Bring your notebook and favorite writing utensil. 📝

Workshop: Transformative Powers of Personal Narrative 📓

Regardless of genre, literary masterpieces often draw from the well-spring of real-life experience. Every life is worthy of a book, but the writer’s ultimate vision may take the form of poetry, a horror novel, a screenplay, journals, or a song. In this Red Dirt Writes session, Faith Phillips shares how personal narratives can transform your best (and worst) days into diverse works of literary art. 📕

Faith Phillips is a novelist, screenwriter, and television producer living in the Cherokee foothills. She created the sub-genre known as Okie Noir. After penning four books, Oxygen Network featured Faith and her Oklahoma best-selling true crime novel, Now I Lay Me Down in a national TV series. That experience unlocked the world of writing for film and television. Phillips then created and produced the national docu-series The Girl Scout Murders. Her latest projects include award-winning feature screenplays, scripted television, and a book on eight unsolved missing and murdered indigenous people (MMIP) cases aimed at bringing resources and justice to victims, their families, and tribal nations.

We will be at Literati Press Comics & Novels this evening if you need a loving and accepting place to be. We are toying around with the idea that everyone gets 6 minutes to scream on the mic tonight. We might just all circle up in one giant hug/crying heap. We are more aware than ever of the magic of our inclusive community full of dreamers and lovers and poets and artists and big feelers. We hold our community close and nothing is gonna stop that. Come in tonight to share or to hang or to get some hugs. 7:00pm showtime—come a lil early if you wanna be on the list.
Things are heavy! And! We still have each other!
