In honor of National Poetry Month and Shakespeare’s birthday month (April 1564), we are hosting a Shakespeare sonnet slam next Friday, April 4, at Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park . 🎭

The competitors have been given a list of Shakespearean sonnets, which they will perform in bouts during the slam. The grand champion will get a prize! 🏆

We’ll start at 6:00 p.m. with typewriter poets in the Mermaid Tavern where you can purchase drinks and snacks. 👩🏻‍💻🥃

The slam kicks off at 7:30 p.m. in the indoor theater with a brief lecture about Shakespeare’s sonnets from a local English professor, and then the first round begins. By the end of the night, you will hear 14 of Shakespeare’s sonnets performed by local poets! 🗣️

In honor of National Poetry Month and Shakespeare’s birthday month (April 1564), we are hosting a Shakespeare sonnet slam at Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park on Friday, April 4. The competitors will be given a list of Shakespearean sonnets in advance, which they will perform in bouts during the slam. The grand champion will get a prize! 🏆

Come play with how words look on the page and explore adding other visual media to poems! All poets/artists/doodlers are welcome, but no skill or experience are required. 🖌️

Lou Esjornson is a data analyst who uses poetry to deal with the world. You’ll often find them walking with their shelties, inline skating, and performing at open mics. Making zines with visual poetry is their current fav. (Please don’t tell their other poems.) 🛼

See you all at First Fridays in the Paseo at Oklahoma Shakespeare on March 7 with typewriter poets followed by a showcase of Red Dirties. Stroll through the Paseo and pop in for a custom typewriter poem (tips appreciated) starting at 6:00 p.m. Our showcase featuring poetry, music, and comedy runs from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Stay for a set or two or the whole thing. Oklahoma Shakespeare will have their bar open to serve drinks, including cocktails and mocktails, the whole night!
