In April 2024, we partnered with Oklahoma Appleseed Center for Law and Justice to shed light on the ongoing injustice faced by criminalized survivors of domestic violence in Oklahoma. This collaboration birthed —a project inspired by survivors, their families, and advocates.

With thousands of flowers, the support of our sponsors, and a lot of hard work, The Wild Mother created a garden that symbolized growth, joy, beauty, regeneration, and healing. Every petal was a hopeful metaphor, a quiet declaration of resilience and renewal.

As with all of our large-scale installations, the garden became a gathering place for advocates, flower lovers, and most importantly—survivors of domestic violence. They shared stories of bravery and healing that moved us deeply:
“I should be dead,” one woman said, tears in her eyes. Another reflected, “Wow. We are getting our flowers while we are living.” Watching these women walk through the garden, reclaiming their power and taking flowers home, was unforgettable.

But before our artistic response, the compassionate and tireless lawyers at Oklahoma Appleseed were already crafting change. Through legislation like SB1835, they’ve worked to secure the release of criminalized survivors unjustly imprisoned.

Today, we celebrate a monumental victory: the first survivor to succeed under the Oklahoma Survivors Act! Lisa Moss—a fellow Oklahoman and Indigenous relative—is now free after serving 34 years of a life without parole sentence.

This is the power of truth, justice, and collective action.

We were gifted Sullivan Owens’ Envelope No.
1 vase and have fallen in love! Its ethereal design is perfect for any art enthusiast or floral designer looking to collect timeless pieces by inspired artists. The hills and valleys of the vase’s design are an animated dance, so we are grateful to have had equally expressive materials for building a beautiful arrangement. Its wide opening lends itself so well to large, expressive blooms like Dahlia but speaks to the delicate nature of characters like Sweet Pea and Orelaya.
For mechanics, we used a coated chicken wire which was a snap! We even used Sullivan Owens’ special flower food which ensured a long vase life.

Yakoke fehna for the opportunity to share our interpretation of an abundant floral design in your beautiful vase. We cannot wait to use it time and time again.

We celebrated our 11th birthday yesterday which caused us to reflect on the origins of our work in floristry. From the beginning, we’ve taken on the most charming weddings and can remember each one so vividly. Whether our clients tied the knot surrounded by Oklahoma City’s downtown scape; tucked away in the Osage Hills; upon a breathtaking cliff in Pagosa Springs; or in a loved one’s garden, our approach to design is the same—honoring of the natural materials we get to work with while also telling the stories of kinship, resilience and love.

While our design work has diversified over the years, we still feel drawn to the humble love stories that make their way to us. It is our privilege to be storytellers of such miracles.

If you are reading this and we had the honor of surrounding you with flowers on the day your love went on the record, we are wish to share our gratitude. You let us into an intimate family moment and now we feel you are as close as kin.

Our womenfolk are hosting a Freedom feast—resurrecting an old tradition established by our East Texas ancestors. So, as we were sitting around the table planning the menu a couple weeks ago, Aunt Plum pulled out this photo of our kinfolk, reminding us of their long held resilience in a deeply turbulent home state.

Tom Jones and Amanda Hurd (bottom middle) are our third great grandparents. They were children living on a plantation in East Texas in 1865, the year of Jubilee. Their daughter, Martha Ann (top left) is our matriarch. Her daughter, our Gigi Mama, would share stories of summers spent with her grandparents, Tom and Amanda, on their peach orchard in East Texas.

This year, we will celebrate Juneteenth with our elders and loved ones, carrying on the tradition of a Freedom feast. And if you know anything of what freedom tastes like you know there will be catfish, fried chicken, collard greens (cooked correctly *wink*), sweet potatoes, macaroni & cheese, fresh relish, corn salad, hot water corn bread, hibiscus tea (and res kool-aid), red velvet cake and home-style ice cream like the church ladies used to churn. And, of course, there will be peaches on the table for Gigi Mama, Tom and Amanda to enjoy with us. 🍑
