Want a little humor to kick off your weekend? for this one! 😂🤣 This year, we caught up with Underground cast members during a rehearsal break and asked if they knew the words to a verse in the "Reaching Freedom"/Finale song. Let's see how they did... 😉 ENJOY!
Lyrics below:

HOW CAN I KEEP FROM SINGING?
My life goes on in endless song
Above Earth's lamentations.
I hear the real, though far-off hymn
that hails a new creation.

Thro’ all the tumult and the strife
I hear its music ringing.
It sounds an echo in my soul.
How can I keep from singing?

While though the tempest loudly roars,
I hear the truth, it liveth.
And though the darkness 'round me close,
Songs in the night it giveth.

No storm can shake my inmost calm,
While to that Rock I'm clinging.
Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth
How can I keep from singing?

When tyrants tremble, sick with fear
And hear their death knell ringing,
When friends rejoice both far and near
How can I keep from singing?

In prison cell and dungeon vile
Our thoughts to them are winging,
When friends by shame are undefiled
How can I keep from singing?

I lift my eyes; the cloud grows thin;
I see the blue above it;
And day by day this pathway smooths,
Since first I learned to love it.

The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart,
A fountain ever springing;
All things are mine since I am His—
How can I keep from singing?

"Free at last. Free at last. Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

As Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech closes - his words ringing out as Underground concludes and the stage fades to a blackout - we are reminded of the dreams we've seen come true and invited to continue dreaming of what justice and unity look like today. Together, we continue to press on toward living in the fullness of that dream.

Check out this article written before the very first time Underground was performed in February 2008 😲 That’s history on history, y’all!

In the article, writer Paul Horsley , describes the show as “riveting” and “powerful” after watching a rehearsal.

This year marks the 18th year of Underground. Don’t miss the powerful retelling of these stories where good triumphs over evil and the courage, resilience and tenacity demonstrated by ordinary people continue to inspire us today!

✨ Meet REGINA SIMS! ✨
This year's performance of Underground includes a special musical performance by Gospel recording artist and Kansas City native, Regina Kay Sims!

Regina began singing at a young age in church. She has since graced the stage with such greats as the late Nancy Wilson, Clark Sisters, CeCe and BeBe Winans, and the late Edwin Hawkins just to name a few!

In 1996, Regina and her husband, Paul Sims, recorded their first independent album, entitled “I Need You.” They have been married for 35 years and have three children Caleb, Kyle, and Khea.

In the fall of 2022, they released a Single, “Won’t Be This Way Always”, where Regina is the featured Artist. The song will encourage, inspire, and uplift your soul.

Regina is known for her ability to sing directly to the heart. Her voice immediately captures your attention.

One fan wrote, “Regina’s voice is like a home that you never want to leave. The jazz, the soul, the technique, the clarity and control are worthy of every reward and ovation.”

Don't miss Kansas City's own Regina Sims in Underground 2025!
