Our Sustainable Growth team volunteered their time at various organizations around the Rutland, VT community on Wednesday. 🤝 The team divided and conquered, stocking shelves at the Rutland Community Cupboard, removing decor and categorizing books at Wonderfeet Kids' Museum and joining the Boys & Girls Club of Rutland County after-school program to teach young environmental champions how to sort, save, and . ♻️ 🌎

Our teams have stepped it up across our footprint this season to ensure all members of our communities can feel the holiday cheer. 👏 Willimantic, CT Hauling made tonight's WTNH 5 o'clock news after donating over 600 pounds of food to the Covenant Soup Kitchen, a local non-profit that suffered the spoiling of $10,000 worth of food in a recent cooler break.

"It's a holiday tradition to take part in donating to the Covenant Soup Kitchen, as we do every year, in conjunction with other local businesses," said Division Manager Mark DiMauro. "The holiday season is about giving, and we are very proud to help give back to our community that we serve."

Beginning her career in the industry as a helper, Ithaca, NY Driver Debbie Brazo was immediately drawn to her role and the community she has served for 14 years. A standing-room-only crowd of friends and family, colleagues, legislative officials, customers, and vocational school partners were on hand to celebrate the dedication of the Kenneth A. Hier Sr. CDL Training School.

Hier, the first employee hired at Casella in 1976, embodied a steadfast commitment to safety and customer service, performing over one million successful service stops throughout his 41-year career. Known by many as “The Man on the Mountain” from his long-running television commercial that highlighted his commitment to customers through all conditions on Killington Mountain, Hier was named the National Waste and Recycling Association's Driver of the Year in 1996, and in 2017 Casella dubbed him its Driver of a Lifetime.

Established in 2020, The Center has graduated nearly 300 drivers since its inception, providing the necessary training to achieve their commercial driver’s license free of charge.

Check out some of our recent fleet innovation initiatives... 🔍

1. Automated Lifting Arm: By automating our fleet, we reduce the need for employees to repeatedly exit the truck and manually maneuver bins. This keeps our people safer, improves the efficiency of their work, and reduces the physical barriers to employment.

2. Curotto-Can Technology: With Curotto-Can technology, we improve route management, flexibility, and productivity, which helps to advance our fuel efficiency.

3. 360-Degree Onboard Cameras: Our collection vehicles include driver-facing, front-facing, and back-up cameras. Many vehicles employ up to eight cameras for sill 360-degree visibility and roadway safety.

4. Hopper Cameras: Select vehicles include a hopper camera, positioned to observe incoming material and spot unacceptable items. By monitoring sorting errors and communicating with customers, we can improve recycling quality.

5. Onboard Computers: With onboard computing technology available on approximately 70% of our fleet, we support routing improvements to enhance both driver productivity and fuel efficiency.

6. Preventive Maintenance: In conjunction with all of the latest technology, basic preventive maintenance remains essential to protecting driver safety, promoting fuel efficiency, and ensuring that we can provide the safe, reliable service our customers need and expect.
